Is the card im thinking about getting with my new computer, i was originaly going to get http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-363&depa=1

but a friend said that it was more then i needed, im currently playing games like Half Life 2 and CS:S and i want somthing that can run them at LEAST on medium with GOOD FPS!

i just need advice on which one i should go with, the 9800 pro is much more affordable but i realize that the x800 is much better, do you guys have any advice on a card that is affordable but good enough to handle HL 2 on high with decent FPS too? thanks!

My 9800 Pro runs HL2 just fine on the highest settings in 1280x960 with 2xAA and 4xAF...

The only real challenge for the card would be in Route Kanal, with all the water, that lags a tad, but not horribly.

Unless you can afford it and want to ensure yourself for the future, go with the 9800.

oh bobcat thanks a bunch, and one more thing, is ur 9800 pro 128 or 256? (MB :) )

I have the X800 Pro VIVO AWESOME AWESOME CARD. I upgraded from the 9800 pro which scored 5600 in 3DMark03, my new X800 Flashed to the X800 XT PE is now scoring 12500 in 3DMark03 so yeah you can notice A HUGE difference

I vote X800 Pro VIVO make sure its a VIVO

if you're gonna get an x800 pro, get a 6800gt instead because it out preforms the pro (same price range). I would also suggest looking for cards on pricewatch.com. Newegg sometimes has a bit overpriced vid cards compared to some other unknown sites you can find on pricewatch.

the game runs very fine on a 9800pro

just don`t get the AIW VIVO version get the plain one you`ll save some bucks

Hl2 performance gets killed when going above 1024x768..
Just got a new LCD and set Hl2 to 12280x1024 and WTF... Route kanal had 18-30 FPS on the water part..
Using a R9800Pro, Amd 64 3000+ so its not my comp..
But the R9800Pro is a killer perf/price.

If you have the money id have to say, go for a Geforce 6800Gt

9800 Pro for sure. the X800 is only for HARDCORE NERD Gamer's that don't mind dropping 4 or 5 hundread on a video card. The 9800 will do the job.

IF you dont get a 9800 Pro, get a 6800GT basically. It will outperform the XTPE is some areas and is better than the X800 Pro

thx guys, lots of mixed reveiws, anyone know for SURE wat the right choice would be if i decide to get the 9800 pro? like wat would be better then the 9800 pro but in the same price range

5900 Nvidia is the equivilant to the 9800 pro i think ..... or maybe 5950 ...

Anyways 9800 Pto is a quality choice. Might have some trouble with the water reflections, but thats it.

9600xt is very good buy for the cheap. I havn'et had much problems with high settings.. just not running high resses. 1024x768 with 2x antialise is awsome.
