okae i bought Half Life 2 about a month ago, but my shitty ass Intel Graphics Card can't handle all thee action happening, so im asking will an ATI Radeon 9200 or ATI Radeon 9200 SE will be good enough for it to run???

i have 80 gig hard drive
512 MB Ram

What speed processor do you have?

Under windows press the winkey and the break key at the same time to bring up the system properties (or use control panel to get there).

You're processor should be listed under the Computer: heading.

as above^^what processor do you run, if the game is slowing down when there's a lot of action it's likely to be the CPU not being able to handle the AI or physics calculations, but a new graphics card couldn't hurt anyway, the 9500/9700 series are about the best cheap ones if you go used:)

Why would anyone expect an intel intergrated graphics card to be able to run hl2?

I suggest the 9600xt, anything less and your raping yourself with your own money.

Neither. Spend a bit more and get a 9600.

BLaH!!! weLpz i Didn't know about all this graphic stuff in order to run game, but a 9600... hmm i guess i'll have to save up more money...

Intel[r]
Pentium [R] 4 CPU 2.80Ghz
2.79 GHz, 512 MB of Ram

Even if your CPU is not too great either, the GFX card is a problem

Heh, When I first got HL2 it ran like crap on my Intel card (DX6!! would't even render some effects, especially shader sorts of things) until I got a 9550 which was cheaper than a 9200 in the store it was purchased at for some reason. I wanted a 9600XT, but the price difference was big (almost twice as much). It works pretty decent on mostly maxed out settings. Also make sure you get one that will actually fit inside your computer too! and keep in mind your PCI and AGP ports.

damn too much crap to worry about for damn Half Life 2, i was so excited playin the game in the beginning cuz it ran so smooth, but when shooting started happening in the game, then it sucked ass... but shit now i have to make sure it even fits inside my comp!!! welpz, im not a workin guy, so im goin cheap for GFX cardz

welpz i found this video card Radeon 9600SE Video Card, 8x AGP, 128MB DDR for only $100.00 from compusa... will it run as well as the ATI 9600XT???

^no

Dont get an SE card, i've heard thei're bad. Get a 9600 normal or 9600 pro

If you want any sort of 'future-proofing' in the card you purchase, then yes, a 9600xt (or even a 9800Pro for that matter) will be a wise move.

However, if all you want to do is get HL2 running at a good clip while looking almost as good as it was meant too, then a 9200 (but not the se version) will be fine. The 9550 is also very cheap here in Canada, CAD $89 at NCIX, in which case you can run HL2 in DX9 mode.

[edit] what ever you do...stay away from the SE versions.

NEVER buy ATi "SE" cards - Radeon 9600SE is significantly slower than Radeon 9000 non-pro!
I recommend buying a Radeon 9550 - it's price is somewhere near Radeon 9250, but the 9550 is a normal 9600, only underclocked. Overclock it to the clock values of 9600 and more - some boards can be overclocked to 9600Pro.
