Video games: a gateway to drugs?

I've been playing fps games since I was 10 and video games over all since I was 9...and I still haven't done drugs or drink (or got drunk) for that matter.

So basically that claim is bullshit.
Ditto.
And i also have never given in to drinking (or doing anything)to be cool either. Although thats more to do with how i've been raised than videogames.

"Steve Johnson, the director of Question Why Youth Empowerment Center of Eastern North Carolina, also described an incident in which a young person shot and killed some of his classmates. Johnson explained that a “federal expert” concluded that the shooting was so precise that government sharpshooters could not duplicate it. So where did the young man learn his lethal accuracy? That’s right, from “extensive hours” playing Doom"

ya cuz he threw copies of Doom at the victem killing him instantly ...****ing idiot

You can't train how to shoot a gun accurately by playing Doom, shooting a precision rifle is about knowing how to breathe correctly, knowing how to hold your gun correctly, knowing how to line up your sights to take into account wind speed, wind direction and distance...things you never learn in Doom. The guy is full of shit.

Hmm.. The old argument-Video Games make you murder people
If I play Half Life, am I going to start a resonance cascade to devestate the planet?
If I play Call of Duty, am I going to walk around shooting Nazis around the next corner?
If i play Tetris, am I going to squish people with giant blocks that fall out of the sky?
God I could go on for hours...
People who think video games are a devils creation to turn earth to the Dark Side-Grow Up

meh, maybe im weird, but i always figured that drugs are the reason that there's a drug problem, not video games.

same here. or... i've been playing video games since i was six, and i've done a few mostly harmless soft drugs (far less dangerous than alcohol), but ill never drink. oh and... doing aforementioned drugs was precipitated by years of research and consideration.

Omg... Just this afternoon, when my mom asked me to pull out weeds, my dad tells her he will do it because "...you need experience, and Alex because you sit on your ass all day murdering people, you probably can't pull weeds properly."

I was holding an axe while he said that (was chopping wood), but did I arise to the opportunity like the media says "video gamers" do? No!

BTW - I wouldn't hurt a fly.

I was burning them with a lighter the other day.

This article makes me want to down some DXM and get ****ed.

These people are the reason were violent. Not video games!

I'd wager that the claim that government sharpshooters couldn't duplicate his accuracy is fairly hyperbolic. I love how the people who claim that Doom (in particular) can train kids how to shoot have clearly never seen Doom. If I'm not entirely mistaken, in the original Doom one could not look up nor down which I personally would consider quite the restriction on one's movements in real life, even if your target is on the same level as you. Secondly, the crosshairs you get in FPSs aren't going to help you all that much in real life. Thirdly, they're shy to mention whether or not he had any previous gun training.

I reckon computer games have helped me aim in that if I were inclined to shoot a gun I might have a better idea how to do it, however it hasn't made me want to fire a gun, nor do I feel that it has nulled me to the prospect of taking someone's life. These people are always extremely quick to ignore that fact. And many other facts, for that matter. I'm bored of them and, thankfully, they don't appear to have any weight in the UK. Just Daily Mail reading idiots who can't make up their own minds about anything and no-one cares what they think.

...and quite how video games lead to drug abuse - well, that's just ludicrous. I really don't understand their logic.

Video games: a gateway to drugs?
It's true! I've been playing Barbie Goes To The Shopping Mall all day and now I'm filling myself with heroin and cocaine as we speak!

DAMN YOU VIDEO GAMES! :(
