CptStern said:no, that doesnt even remotely apply to what I said ..I suggested that your notion that banning guns would lead to increased (or levels that remain the same) crime is inappropriate, nothing more. But that notion is completely flawed because the stats prove that in an overwhelming number of cases guns were used to commit murder
again you're applying one event to try to justify another unrelated event ..it just doesnt hold up to even casual scrutiny because the circumstances are completely unrelated
oh and for the last time anyone who truely believes they need to own a gun to protect themselves from the state needs a healthy dose of reality, you will be mowed down in seconds should you ever participate in a rebellion, it is completely absurd for anyone to believe that the US will be brought down by a handful of indignant citizens armed with shotguns ..you wouldnt stand a chance
How do you explain the links in my post on the first page of the thread? Gun crime in England went up by between 30% - 40% 1 year after guns were banned in the United Kingdom? How do you explain that sudden and massive increase other then to say that banning guns perpetrated the increase in gun crime?
It isn't the guns that kill people, it's the person using the guns, whether that person is a pyscho murdering scumbag or an untrained, unqualified person. I am fully trained on how to use guns and weapons and would be fully confident with myself in handling weapons at home. The unfortunate thing is not every gun owner in American has the same level of training in firearms or responsibility that i do? Which is why i say that owning guns and having a gun license should be done in the same way that owning a car and having a driving license is, where you have to pass weapon handling and safety tests and be taught by professionals the responsibilities that you, as an individual and a family member, need to have when bringing weapons into your home.
If the UK is anything to go by and the example that the UK has given the rest of the western world, banning guns will do nothing to lower gun crime or gun related deaths in anyway, just as many or more innocent people will die by the gun if guns are banned. This has been proven in a real world enviroment...i.e. the United Kingdom.
edit: Just to carry on and make another point from what i wrote above, the current and present gun laws in America, in my opinion, are both inadequate and stupid. The fact that anyone can walk into a supermarket in America, buy a shotgun and enough twelve gauge to massacre 20 local schools, and walk out the front entrance is completely stupid and wrong and in my opinion the American gun laws should be changed to be made tougher. There was a program on tv last year, can't remember what it was called but it was on tv, and the program followed 3 types of gun owners. The 1st was a gang member who used guns to protect his turf, to protect his gang members and to shoot rival gangs, the 2nd was someone who used guns for home defence, hunting and was a regular at the local gun range, the third was this incompetant woman who, for some strange reason, had been allowed to have a gun but had absolutely no idea how to operate the gun, how to use the gun safely and how to be responsible with the gun, she couldn't even shoot straight. Now, in my opinion, only one of those people should ever have the right to ever own a gun, and thats the second one. Too many accidents happen in America when it comes to guns because of stupid, ignorant people who don't look at guns the way they should i.e. not something to fear, but something to respect and to make sure the people around them respect. Like i said, i am qualified on guns and know how to use guns and have fired guns before because i have been trained in that fact and trained and proven myself responsibility with it, people like me in America should have the right to own a gun...but like i said, a lot of people in America don't have that same training and responsibility, which is why there are these 190 odd deaths every year due to accidents.
