Video Transparency Bug

if you know my custom spray problem..how ironic! ROFL :rolling:

but anyway, ive had this problem playing CS:S since the last big patch. ive heard of other people having this problem too, but ive searched for a solution and couldnt find one. i finally got sick of having this unfair advantage, and in one case, got accused of wallhacking.

the bug is that crates, windows, file cabinents, barrels, and the random clutter objects that all players clip through become 100% invisible after a distance of about 'half-bridge length' on de_aztec. in other words, after a certain distance, objects slowly fade the farther i get away from it. in some cases, i can see someone hiding behind a crate from a distance. if i zoom it with a scope on the object, it will become solid. although, some far away objects are still see-thru even 2x zoomed because of, still, how far away i am from it.

consider it a built-in wallhack that makes objects transparent. its helpful, at the same time annoying. sometimes i find myself shooting at someone behind a crate, although i wont hit them(nonscope weapons). sometimes i know when someone is rushing out and can get in the first shot for a kill. (line up a headshot with scout, for example).

in the game, i ask players about it and they heard about the bug/problem before, and they say its because the latest patch made the source engine use direct x 8. others say it has to do with some dx_level "70" (or whatever the command was). i never tried any of them because i got different responses from many people, i wasn't sure which one was right and didn't want to screw anything up.

if anyone knows how to fix this, that would be great. in addition, i'd be able to share the fix with other people i know and come across with this bug by giving them this forum thread link. ALSO. anyone doing a search on yahoo or google or whatever will be able to find a well described and accurate description of their same problem as I, and know a solution to fixing it.

This was first noticed when cs_compound first came out. It is part of the engine to help take some of the load off of your (PC) system. I don't know the exact reason why they did this, but is is not a bug.

If your game is set to render in dxlevel70 then you would get that glitch.

r_screenfademinsize "500"
r_screenfademaxsize "500"
Put these into your autoexec.cfg and maybe it'll help.
