Video Tutorial: XSI Colt 1911

Desty, you are my hero. I went from not being able to do anything to making my first handgun from following your tutorial. I watched all the movies and learned how you did stuff, then applied it to my own handgun, a Beretta M96 .40 S&W. You can see what I did if you want. I'd search for archvilell in advanced search under "What now? My model's done." for what it looks like.

Right now I'm trying to model my dad's Mini-14. After watching your tutorials, I'm feeling pretty confident.

Again, you are my hero, lol.

Thanks again for the support, nice to see people who actually manage to transfer the knowledge to another model, I get a lot of pms of people who don't "understand" modeling and can't get things done even with this.

And yes, I will be making a video tutorial on texturing, but don't hold your breath ;)

Best news I've heard for ages :)

I'm looking forward to it.

Can someone compile the videos into one download?

I was led to about 3 different sites before I finally found a download link, and now there are like 9 more files to go. :exhaust:

I had to chase the files as well, but it is well worth the effort.

I'm having a bit of trouble, not sure whether It's me, my XSI, or what.

When I try to create a polygon over the top of the gun (like the first polygon you made in the 2nd video tutorial) It comes out making 2 edges forming an X from diagonal point to diagonal point, and making one of the polygons, If you need a picture to know what I mean, I'll get one soon. Anyone know what's going on? ;(

Post a screenshot so we can see what you mean..

Never mind, figured it out, :p

Stupid me, I had the polygons inverted >_>

This doesnt work DESTY

The videos are encoded in Xvid, links are provided on the hl2modcentral tutorial page.

Don't mean to hassle you but is there any news on that texturing tutorial desty ?

A quick bump, again I'm sorry but I'm so deperate for that tutorial... any news?

:O Didn't know Desty was registered on here.

Absolutely amazing tutorials, helped a lot, although I didn't actually model along with the video. Now I just need to learn to animate from somewhere (Kind of got texturing). :E

yea i saw this tut before i changed over to max, i got about half of the model done in XSI but couldnt be bothered to remake it in max. im a very lazy person.

Awesome tutorial Desty... I've only taken the first too, but i can tell so far that they are really in-depth and are coming from a modeling vet :p

do you have certian codecs for your media players? like xvid i think is one, there are a couple others but i don't know what they are called...

btw: sorry for double posting

Xvid. There is a link to it on the tutorial page.

I'm not finding much time for a second tutorial - I have several personal projects, like a mod which I am working on and on top of that, coursework. But I will see how things go.

I don't want to drag this off-topic but what mod are you working on desty?

Thanks for the tutorial though, I find it difficult to use anything but XSI now :)

I have a problem.. In the 2 part. When doing the front part which requires me to subdivide the poly into 11 parts. My XSI 4.2 will only go to 8 segments?! What am I doing wrong? I remember doing this tutorial ages ago and it worked fine. That was on an older version. :S Help.

XSI locks up when I do that. :S

EDIT: Nevermind I worked it out. Back to desty's tutorial then. :) Great tutorial btw. :D

Yes i got to video 4 where you start the front part. Then in the reference files it only includes img_0248 but not 0249. Can you post a quick download link or should i just model it with a picture that it is not well positioned?

GO GO GO GO VOLS!

Seems my first post here will be a necropost, but I too am in need of that missing picture. Anyone have a link?
