Vigilante

Vigilante is a new Half-Life 2 modification with no current members, the leader, my self is a 3d Artist and Mapper. My work can be found at:

http://members.lycos.co.uk/st4tic/
http://members.lycos.co.uk/ichi3d/

NOTE: This webspace contains some very old work.

I'm currently searching for:

Lead Concept Artist
Lead Programmer
Web Designer/Programmer

I do not currently need any other people. I wish to get some foundations with a small amount of people before I start real development.

Lead Concept Artist

We require art for each character/vehicle. Work will be for characters, vehicles and environments. A good understanding of the human body is not needed as much as a good understanding of mechanical objects.

(This may/will be too much work for 1 person, so I may recruit 2 people, one for Environment and the other for Character and Vehicles.)

Lead Programmer

We require a lot of physics programming. Half-Life 2 already has amazing physics. But each vehicle will be built up of physical and static objects. This means metal will need to deform and be manipulated on collision. Vehicle programming will be required to expand on the Half-Life 2 current systems.

Web Designer/Programmer:

We require a website which can have basic information about the modification and also a media section to publish small amounts of media to gain PR before release. We need a forum for community members to congregate. This forum will also be used for organisation within the modification. If you can program a WMS this would be an added bonus. But I already have planned a method of organisation through the forums. A control panel for the website will be needed so I do not have to contact you every time I wish to have the website updated. Webspace will be provided (currently available)

NOTE: The team will congregate and have meetings on mIRC (IRC)

Information

Vigilante is a vehicle combat modification for Half-Life 2 where players go up against each other in 3 different gametypes; King of the Hill, Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch.

Control your vehicle in a 3rd person perspective picking up weapons and attached them your vehicle, with a maximum of 3 at one time you can have a wide range of arsenal.

Drive your vehicle around a fully interactive and destructible environment finding hidden secrets and avoiding arena traps such as earth quakes, landslides and dust storms.

Your vehicle has a special weapon meter. This can be filled by collecting special tokens or by interacting and destroying your enemy/environment. Once you have hit your special meter limit your special weapon becomes active.

Bend, dint, scratch and destroy your enemy’s vehicle with advanced physical collision manipulation. Vehicle body work is fully destructible with no pre-made collision animations

Plan

My plan for this modification is to start of fairly simple. I have plans for more gametypes, weapons and vehicles/characters. But these will not even be thought about unless we can reach a good standard of beta. Once/if the beta meets expectations I/we will develop the modification further. I do not wish to overcomplicate things at such an early stage. Basically I want solid foundations before I start to get wild with ideas, which in the long run I may not be able to pull off. This is why I’m starting off fairly simple.

Features

• 9+ Vehicles with unique character and style
• 7+ different types of standard weapons
• 5+ Interactive and Destructible Arenas
• Unique special weapons for each character
• Advanced physical collision manipulation

Vigilante 8 is an older game for n64 and playstation. It was hella fun though. Ichi from you work in the past I can see you are a moderatly creative person, and even though this would be very fun, you might want to expand on the concept. Perhaps give the ability to get out of the car to perform certain tasks, such as setting mines or tire spikes. Personally I think having vehicles in a mod should always be a secondary route of destruction, because I tend to get bored of just driving games. Anywho, I hope all goes well with your project, and I'd offer to help but I am only a modeler :(. Good luck!

Most of my ideas are under the curtain. Not because I don't want to tell anyon e. But because I want to get to a certain stage where I can say "Yes I will be able to do it". Anyone can be creative but when it comes to actually making it they get stuck. I would much rather start simple. Then develope into something unreal :p but there is no point in thinking Unreal when you don;t know the standards you will get.

are you sure Vigilante isn't copyrighted? becuase that is pretty much ripping the name from the 64 game....
I had the same style idea, it'd be a really fun game to play :) if you ever need some help on some vehicles I may beable to give a hand :)

I think Ichi has already talked with whoever has the rights to Vigilante 8 (is it Activision? been a while since I've played :))

I have been in contact with Luxoflux and Activision. With my current stand I will not hit any copyright laws. But I am also waiting for confirmation about using the 'Vigilante 8' name and some existing character names.

Oldfaq, would you like to join as a full time member or just helping out here and there?

hey Ichi,
I'd enjoy helping you, I'm still learning vehicles though I can do low poly/high polygon ones, I could always try one out to make sure I'm capable of working on the team? I am also able to do other thing sjust not humans x_X so contact me on MSN if you'd like at [email protected] or email me at [email protected] and give me a job to do :)

Have you got a website/webspace where I can quickly look at your work, also some information on your 3d application of choice along with where your from and your experiance etc... just be honest and explain what you could do, realisticly :p

(email me the information if you do not wish to publicly say, but its easier on the forums :p email is nasty :O)

I wasn't looking for a modeller atm, but I can't remember if you are a experianced modeller or not. I wouldn't want to miss out on the chance if you are. I'm going to be fairly strick on the people joining though :( mainly because the project will be hard to pull off.

Thanks.

hello Ichi,
here's my experience.
it will sound odd but you will be strict and I'll be honest..
Age = 15
I've been doing 3d artwork since I was 12 I have been working at it for a few years now but not really serious until I was 14, I am working hrad to get my vehicular skill back in shape, I have been able to completey make the exterior for a vehicle, not finshing one yet, I have WIP shots of cars I have been working on, I have just begun work on an AUDI TT and Im starting interior - Exterior. I Have worked on a Nissan 350z, Fiat500, and a porsche, I have gotten pretty far in the production of each, I haven't really aimed at a 5000 polygon vehicle yet but I have been aiming at unlimited polygon counts. I will do a "test" if you'd like. I am pretty good with max for 15 years of age, but not that good, I'm still learning and have quite a ways to go I'm going to be uploading some very old work on vehicles I was doing, so take a look at them and then decide how and what will happen with me and the team. :)

Fiat 500
I discontinued work on this becuase there was a mesh error I was unable to fix :( so here they are, not welded down the center either

Nissan 350z
I didn't like how the back was shaping up so I scrapped it

Porsche 911 Carrera 1998
I actually don't know why I had stopped working on it, I was really enjoying the production of it x_X

Thanks for your offer Oldfaq but I am going to have to turn it down. If I was going to recruit a modeller at this time I would have to be very very special. Thanks again.

errr, looks like youre relying a bit too much on meshsmooth there mate. thats the trick with low poly models, sticking to the limit, but at the same time getting the detail in. mind you, HL2 car models cant really be classed as low poly, being 8-10k :p

just curious Ichi, have you thought about poly limits for the cars and occupants ?

the original is a tight game, and it would be cool with real physics. :)

heh,
not a problem, didn't expect to get on :) I modeled all of those so that when meshsmoothed they came out nice, but normal smoothing gives same nice effect :D
