I need to figure out of this fixes the issues Vista has with 5.1 surround. Too lazy to reinstall to find out.
Well it's a heavily extensive update. I was going to post that there was no difference pre-service pack 1 but decided to review it longer. When I load up anything that has sound though, I can't hear anything. Something in the Service Pack doesn't agree with my onboard Realtek sound card drivers. Great. :dozey: *IMO I see a lot of problems people are posting including this thread I made: http://www.flamehaus.com/bbs/here-vp2946428.html#2946428 I suggest you hold off on it.
Honestly, SP1 makes Vista a helluva lot better. I highly suggest updating to it.

Additionally, Windows Update will not offer Windows Vista SP1 to computers together with the Logitech QuickCam that uses the Lvuvc.sys device drivers (all versions). Microsoft has detected a flaw in the Windows Vista Ks.sys file that can cause a critical stop during Windows Vista SP1 installation if this device driver file is installed. An update to Ks.sys is being created that resolves this issue.
When Microsoft has resolved this issue, an update to Ks.sys will be offered to these users. After this update is installed, they will then be offered Windows Vista SP1 by re-checking for updates.

hmm... does that mean the Audigy 2 zs card I'm using?
looked in my dxdiag and it looks like it.... I'm downloading the standalone pack but I'm hesitant to install it now.
Create a restoration point before installing.

Looks like Windows Update doesn't show SP1 unless you've kept up to date with your drivers.
here is a list of drivers SP1 will see as problematic.
I posted that list above.
And why are people complaining about that? Microsoft has absolutely no control on whether manufacturers make drivers for Vista (they can do a lot of convincing, but they aren't going to make someones drivers for them). By waiting until you have up to date drivers, it ensures that the user has the best possible experience. For those who are going to do it regardless of whether they have updated drivers or not, that's why there are standalone download links. Thus, everyone who wants it, can get it, and the average home user who doesn't know what a Service Pack is, doesn't have to worry about drivers and such.
