So its finally out. Has anyone gotten a copy? And if so what can you tell us thats different than the beta?

Vista is imcompatible with most Korean websites, and the Ministry of Information and Communication has warned us not to use it.

I'm not getting Vista, I don't see the point. I don't need any of the features, except DX10. And I can wait for that since there I don't have a DX10 card.

I just bought it like 15 minutes ago, and now I'm backing up my backup hard drive, because it'll become my master hard drive and i bought a new 250GB backup HD. I use backup loosely, what I really mean is "porn" hard drive.

I've got 40min remaining on the backup, and then it's vista install time. I'll let you guys know how it goes!

I'm in no hurry with this one. Probably take another six months before I consider upgrading. Before that, I need to buy a new and faster PC laptop. Either that or a Macbook.

how do the upgrades work? Do you need the key for your current windows?

How would one install the upgrade on more than one PC, is it simply just logging into an account through microsoft?

Okay, i'm already frustrated...I have a 250gb harddrive that shows up in the bios, shows up in my device manager, but does not show up as a drive! gah!

Is it a storage drive with data on it you do not want to loose? Or a blank drive?

I've had my big drive with data on it not show up in a new installed OS before. I think I grabbed the setup program from the disk manufacture. If you are on Vista I am surprised it doesn't see it. I know XP can't see past a certain size without drivers or something from the disk manufacture.

It is a waste of money right now imho. Between XP and 2000, everything that people need to do or want to do is covered very nicely. The need for Microsoft to release a totally new OS right now is beyond me (I know--$$$). Its apparently been hell for many of the day-to-day things that we all take for granted now anyway, so I just don't see the point.

okay, seems to have fixed itself with a restart, drive works now...

i <3 computers.

Well I've had it and have been using it as my primary OS for like 3 or 4 weeks now... It's great!

I was reading a review of it today, and they had a really great statement in it... It basically stated that Windows Vista is one of the best Windows released (and will get even better with service packs), but the question is really if it's best for you.

There's no doubt that some people will want to stick with XP, and that's great... However Vista really does make your productivity go up and works with some extra hassle in all of my programs.

Right now, most of the problems with Vista are hardware and software issues, which is up to the independent companies to put out more drivers and release updated versions of their software to work with Vista... The change from having free-reign over your computer to now being a standard user is something not a lot of programs deal with... It's a change that is good for the better though :)

Here's a good review. Also touches on DRM topics, so if any of you are wondering about those read this review!

How exactly does Vista make your productivity go up? Seems a bit unlikely to me.

Personally speaking.. I've been using Ubuntu Linux for about 6 months now, but will be moving back to Windows in about three or four months because I can afford to build a new gaming machine, and I want to play HL2 and Ep 1 over again on a powerful machine in time for Ep 2 coming out. But when that happens, I don't think I'll bother with Vista, I don't really any real advantage for gaming until DX10 becomes a big.

I've had it sitting around for days... and it'll be quite a few more days before I install it.

I'll wait for that service pack to come out (later this year) that their already testing. Also some device drivers arent quite up to snuff yet.

Besides, right now, almost every game runs worse on Vista. Anywhere from a 1% to a 32% fps drop.
D:

Everyone knows not to go with a brand new OS right away. Wait for patches and better drivers.

Just got Vista Ultimate! 2193 out of 25000 :)

Who thinks this is going to be worth something in the future?

Bill Gates signed 25,000 Vistas?

Bill Gates signed 25,000 Vistas?

Its a digital signature, if you were lucky you could have had it signed for real at a launch event.

Still tho its numbered.

It's a lot of little things.

Things such as instant-search in the start menu, compressed program files so I don't have to reach across the screen to find programs, etc etc... There's also all of the stuff you can do with your media and all of that stuff with organizing and tagging them and all that jazz.

A huge example is also Office2007, which has HUGE productivity increases since everything is so much easier to use and all of the complexities are brought to the top where I can find them. Seriously, it's so easy to make awesome looking Office documents now.

Now obviously some of these things are like maybe a few extra seconds worth of work, but considering how often I use my computer daily, and how many days per week, those few saved seconds add up :)

If you're not looking for how Vista helps you, you won't see it since it's taken for granted.

i think i'll wait until i have a dx10 card and until they've squashed some more bugs :P

how do the upgrades work? Do you need the key for your current windows?

I had a leaflet with my Acer Laptop. I believe you need the original proof of purchase (receipt) and some sort of key that is provided on/above/in your laptop

64-bit or 32-bit edition? Tough decision.

for the blank drive: format it, then it will show up :-P

and with the full version you get 32 and 64bit on one disc afaik with the permission to use either but not both at the same time. this does not apply to the system builder version though.

and wow...that upgrade thing stinks. they cannot expect people to install win2k or xp again first just to erase it and install vista afterwards.

my friend is about to buy the upgrade right now, i'm trying to convince him to just buy the full package but he says he doesn't want to spend the extra $50 or whatever it is...
