It`s been almost 9 days now. Where is the Gold/to many bugs announce?

Werent they suppose to bug test Half-Life 2 for 72 hours?

Been discussed before. They dont need to tell you how everything is going etc. Maybe they still working on testing. Maybe it went gold. Maybe they started production but not saying its gold even tho it is. etc etc.

Good things come to those who wait. Unless, of course, that thing is Duke Nukem Forever.

Or the new site design.

But at the end of the day, patience is your best friend.

72 hours was a made up time by the local forum goers. No one at valve ever said "oh yeah, it's going to take precisely 72 hours. No more, no less."

Also remember they are testing 3 games here. If you use the magical number of 72 hours for all 3 games, it comes to well...today. So maybe gold today, but don't hold your breath.

I'm pretty sure the first rc got rejected. That's why there was a CS:S update, to bring the beta up to the second rc status.

It depends. Heck the game could be so awesome that they cant take bear to quit and take the cd out and make copies of it. Sure, they say "It will only take 5 minutes to make the first copy and then we can play that, I'll pop it right uot of my computer in a minute, dont worry about it, after this level, yeah I'll get it right to you after this, Ohh I just found a bigger shotgun..."

Well they did tell us they sent RC so I don't see the reason why not to tell us if it got rejected or not.

my thoughts exactly

um, didnt in one of the emails from gabe (that was posted here) say there were 100 cd's sent off (including different languages)?

This update was discouraging, but there are different possible ways of explaining this,. such as they needed to update css for the testers, or that while the other games potentially passed, CSS still has a few bugs to be worked out.

I do think we're getting close, people.

I do remember reading that somewhere, can't for the life of me remember where though....

or vivendi could just say there "still" testing it but really there havnig so much damn fun and they don't want to leave the game for more than 2 seconds.

They will probably only say something when it goes gold. If the first RC fails, Valve will make another one and send it to VUG, in silence. When HL² goes gold we might hear about which RC was accepted, not very likely though. Unless it was the first ;)

Don't worry about it going gold, it'll happen soon enough. Anyway Rome: Total War is out!! well in the states... still got another week to wait in Europe :borg:

something is going on because one, the a rating was released, two, what the CE box will look like and three whats in it, so it probably half-life 2 single player went gold but cs:s didnt and thats what they might be waiting on

No. That's not it.

you guys have to keep in mind that HL1 was 72 hours from arrival to gold... But look how short HL1 is. I mean people have beaten it in 45 minutes, and even a normal person can beat it in under 4 hours if you play nonstop. HL2 I suspect is going to be a much much much longer game than 4 hours, maybe even upwards of 30 hours if you check every nook cranny, and experience it to the fullest. Then you have to play it at least twice through (maybe on different difficulties). If I were vivendi I'd probably be having about 12 people playing it non stop right now and they're just playing through one time to see if its beatable. Then they would have to go back and this time look for any bugs that ruin a spot (like a fan blade not being able to turn when a switch is hit from a certain angle) then after maybe 6 days of playing the game they make their big list of bugs or nuances they found and probably tell Valve about them. If valve insists thats whats supposed to be in the game or something then they'll leave it be... Maybe go play it one more time to make sure that theres nothing big enough to stop the average gamer from beating the game and enjoying themselves. Then of course theres all the multiplayer testing, etc etc... You never know they could be done with it and are preparing it for shipping as we speak but wont let us know that its going gold until the minute they ship it out. That would ensure that every package arrives at every store on time and theres no big piracy fiasco like what happened to doom 3. It seems that people really dont like their stuff being pirated. Eminem is going to be "working" on his next album up until the week before its released so that some overzealous packaging guy making minimum wage decides to steal it and put it on the net and he loses thousands of dollars.

[/rant] :)

The designed Half Life layout is quite lengthy, but like any speedrun for most games with fun glitches or developer oversight, the time can be brought down drastically. I should know. :)

Even without being able to walk across the void between levels or being able to minejump, abuse the tau cannon, etc. you could possibly do it in under an hour and change.

Maybe so but it's definately not short. Max Payne 2 is short. Max Payne is short. Call of duty is short. Half-life is not short

Half-Life is far from a short game. Compared to most games today, it's bloody gigantic.

I know. I said it's lengthy. But from a speedrunner's view it's quite nice. A speedrunner can beat games 3-4x faster than the average person, which is kinda the point.

I'm basically saying you can't say HL is short because a speedrunner can beat it fast.
