Vortal Coil Elevator Death

Hope someone has a fix for this... Once the v-gaunt has his extract we jump onto the elevator and start goin back up towards Alyx. The v-gaunt is monologueing a bit, the game loads and once it starts running again the elevator gets stuck in the shaft. After another few seconds the screen turns red and I die. Very strange... no error codes, nothing! Happens every time... can't get past it! Running a perfectly legal copy via Steam.

Did you throw any objects down the elevator pit when you were with Griggs and Sheckley?

This could be a possibility.

Otherwise just try not touching the edges when inside the elevator.
