In the E3 2004 vid the vortigants are working for us now apparantly. We see one taking orders from Eli, and Alyx said one TOLD her Gordon was at the lab. Since when did they join our side, were taught to speak english? Are they greatful to be freed from the Nihilith or whatever it was, cuz they were slaves to it? Or did Eli catch, and train a few while he was at BMRF?

We don't know....but they're your friends now.
Probably freed them when you killed the Nihilanth.

yea they were just slaves in the first game, they didn't "want" to kill everyone.

their shock collars made them

Or so says "Point of View". But sounds right to me.

nope that one xen level proves it, you go there, they just look at you and run around. its not untill the handlers come (the floating/shooting head guys) come that things start to go to hell.

Yeah I guess so.....but then the bullsquids didn't attack you either.
Anyway...I'm sure this theory is right.

Originally, houndeyes were supposed to be neutral to the player, but during playtesting Valve noticed that players blew shit up first and asked questions later. So it didn't work out.

Lol yeah I heard about that. Still.....it would have made sense to have some neutral aliens....it's not like creature every that happens to get teleported to Earth is going to try and kill you. Houndeyes never seemed like enemies really anyway.

thats hillarious.

I think the Bullsquids on Earth were simply driven crazy due to the sudden change in environmental conditions. They only seem agressive on Earth.

Also, am I right in thinking that the Vorts no longer seem to wear those collars? I dunno, I only have the really blurry vid...

I always blew the scientist up first then asked questions later too. Doesn't mean you have to make the scientist into enemies.

I still don't get why there were no zombie vortigaunts. Perhaps their collars stopped them from becoming hosts.....perhaps we'll be seeing them in HL2. Just seems stupid to have a parasite on Xen that only takes over humans...

Their collars were weapons (maybe control devices too though) - in Decay there's a set of collar and bracelets wired up in a lab so when you push a button they fire (continuously I think).

I don't think Nihilanth was a bad guy. You did what G-man wanted, kill Nihly :'(
Nilhilanth says stuff like "Don't trust him, he isn't human" probably referring to the administrator or the G-man.

Perhaps the vortigonts fight against you because they assume you are associated with the faction invading xen (which turned out true), whereas some might discover that the scientists were clueless and get along with the scientists in hl2

just guessing

I guess they just don't see them as hosts. Maybe it is like aliens, you never saw the facehuggers attacking the drones.

Yeah...but natural selection would suggest they would have died out without hosts. Ah well.....looking too much into this.

Ummm... the Facehuggers don't attack the drones because it would be counterproductive, seeing as they're thae same species.

I think that the Vorts have just evolved to be good at dodging, removing, and killing headcrabs. Maybe the headcrabs even avoid them, only attacking the sick or injured ones.

There must be something on Xen that the 'crabs can parasitise, though...

Were you being sarcastic? 'Cause that's pretty much the way it'd seem...
Them being called Alien Slaves in the original and all...

Throughout the original I was always thinking of a Vortigaunt in a specially-made HEV suit blasting sh*t through things with a shotgun. Would've been great :)

And cool-looking. I wonder if the Xenians have anything like the HEV. The Grunt armour was impenetrable, I know that...

Perhaps the collars kept the headcrabs away. Dunno if the crabs NEED a host to live. Perhaps they use their attach point to feed on other xen creatures that arent' sentient.

headcrabs probably lived on baby bullsquids. the "normal" ones or adult ones if you will, always seemed to feel the need to squish the headcrabs before anything else.

headcrabbed bullsquid baby =

That would be singularly freaky.

I wonder if that means that humans have a similar biological makeup to Bullsquids?

I was hoping to see one of the big soldiers walking a headcrab on a leash like a pet when i first went to xen.
