VRAD just crashes, always

For unknown reasons vrad always crashes (with a windows procgram crash error popup) when compiling with hammer 4.1 on any map for HL2DM, including sdk_dm_lockdown.vmf and a simple tiny cube map.
Vrad only does not crash if "run RAD" has "no" selected.
Redownloading the render program files does not help.

Am I missing any requirements?

Well... all runs fine in above log, although rad doesn not run at all.. Does the log say anything before RAD crashes?
 
vrad.exe just keeps crashing on startup.
I tried nems batch compiler with the same result.

one simple light source and one spawn point: vrad crashes on startup.
no light sources: vrad crashes on startup.
no entities at all: vrad crashes on startup.

just doubleklicking vbsp.exe or vvis.exe starts (and closes) a dos window (asking for missing -parameters).
just doubleklicking vrad.exe gives a windows error popup.


Another operarting system tells me that the error is caused in vrad.dll . Just deleting vrad.dll and running vrad.exe does not cause the error, it just does not do anything :).
 
Really? Thats just plain crazy!?

Because I googled and I searched the valve wiki and eventually pulled a few strings that I have in the inner secret circle of the mapping society gurus and to my genuine surprise, they all pointed in the same direction.

OK, i tell a lie. I just googled it, but it helps if you know that ashmacks real name is Adam McKern also knows as Amckern and that the tools are infact called CST :)

and for those I get the same windows error, on all three compile exe's.
 
I think you should try refreshing the SDK content.



Yeah, this is like a month late.
 
if this only happens when you do an HDR compile let it go (dont press any buttons on the crash dialog box) and it will actually finish
