Even tho i've only started to follow the HL2 pre release buzz only 2 days ago, the picture i see is quite grim.
From what i've seen so far the game is ready, and it's been ready for enought time to get gold, packed and delivered to the stores escorted by combine soldiers who would keep the half mad gamers at bay and prevent riots.
The trouble starts where it usualy does. When greedy people are trying to get more $$$. By greedy people i refer to mostly to Vivendi. Not that Valve isn't trying to make a buck, but they are the ones providing us with our next hit to satisfy our now well developed addiction. Vivendy is there just to grab some of that pie. In case you are aren't sure sure what the heck i'm babling about read around the forums, Valve and UV are battling each other in court. It seems bouth sides have something to say to the judge, and it's gonna take a while. Usualy i wouldn't care less about it,but ....and that's the real problem.....HL2 needs VU "good to go" to be released, and they aren't in a hurry...simply becouse it's another card they are playing, i suspect (maybe there's someone with legal education around here who could clear this up) that for HL2 to be released it needs eather UV or the judges "ok".
I'm not the first bringing this up around here:http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=42091
So it looks like UV is just gonna sit on the game till something breaks, and as i'm sure enough people are aware around here it isn't something Vivendi would hesitate to do:

this one is a bit old, but it doesn't change the fact that Vivendi wouldn't as much as blink if the game would be delayed as late as 2005,
"hey, they'll buy it anyway". Maybe i'm not a marketing strategy expert but i'd say they would shoot themselfs in the leg, missing the Xmas season....or maybe their plan is to stall till the Xmas season in the first place. Eather way it seems they don't mind keep us, gamers, in a pre release hype till all of it wents off in a month or two.
Maybe i'm just paranoid and the game will get released a hour after i'll post this, but the odds seem to be against it.
There isn't much we can do, but we could write a nice "give us half live 2 or we'll give you death" letter to who ever in there is handling the consumer complaints. Or speed up the pace while walking by Vivendis next "latest and greatest" game shelf....assuming it's not HL2. Or if nothing else just let them hear our desperate chant "HALF LIFE 2!!!, HALF LIFE 2!!!, HALF LIFE 2!!!".
I doubt this post will realy make a difference against a cold and greedy corporation like Vivendi Universal, but playing gamers...consumers for fools shouln't go unoticed or unpunished, after all we are the reason they got jobs......not the other way around, right? .....(don't answer that )
So....HALF LIFE 2!!!, HALF LIFE 2!!!, HALF LIFE 2!!!!
