VU playing their game.....us, gamers

Even tho i've only started to follow the HL2 pre release buzz only 2 days ago, the picture i see is quite grim.

From what i've seen so far the game is ready, and it's been ready for enought time to get gold, packed and delivered to the stores escorted by combine soldiers who would keep the half mad gamers at bay and prevent riots.

The trouble starts where it usualy does. When greedy people are trying to get more $$$. By greedy people i refer to mostly to Vivendi. Not that Valve isn't trying to make a buck, but they are the ones providing us with our next hit to satisfy our now well developed addiction. Vivendy is there just to grab some of that pie. In case you are aren't sure sure what the heck i'm babling about read around the forums, Valve and UV are battling each other in court. It seems bouth sides have something to say to the judge, and it's gonna take a while. Usualy i wouldn't care less about it,but ....and that's the real problem.....HL2 needs VU "good to go" to be released, and they aren't in a hurry...simply becouse it's another card they are playing, i suspect (maybe there's someone with legal education around here who could clear this up) that for HL2 to be released it needs eather UV or the judges "ok".

I'm not the first bringing this up around here:http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=42091

So it looks like UV is just gonna sit on the game till something breaks, and as i'm sure enough people are aware around here it isn't something Vivendi would hesitate to do:

this one is a bit old, but it doesn't change the fact that Vivendi wouldn't as much as blink if the game would be delayed as late as 2005,
"hey, they'll buy it anyway". Maybe i'm not a marketing strategy expert but i'd say they would shoot themselfs in the leg, missing the Xmas season....or maybe their plan is to stall till the Xmas season in the first place. Eather way it seems they don't mind keep us, gamers, in a pre release hype till all of it wents off in a month or two.

Maybe i'm just paranoid and the game will get released a hour after i'll post this, but the odds seem to be against it.

There isn't much we can do, but we could write a nice "give us half live 2 or we'll give you death" letter to who ever in there is handling the consumer complaints. Or speed up the pace while walking by Vivendis next "latest and greatest" game shelf....assuming it's not HL2. Or if nothing else just let them hear our desperate chant "HALF LIFE 2!!!, HALF LIFE 2!!!, HALF LIFE 2!!!".

I doubt this post will realy make a difference against a cold and greedy corporation like Vivendi Universal, but playing gamers...consumers for fools shouln't go unoticed or unpunished, after all we are the reason they got jobs......not the other way around, right? .....(don't answer that  )

So....HALF LIFE 2!!!, HALF LIFE 2!!!, HALF LIFE 2!!!!

it'st he way corporations work... more money, less cost. everything has to be a tangible benefit.

Hey nice title for the thread. I never really thought about VU thinking we (the players/consumers) are just a little game to them. Like I have been saying all the time. VU is just in for the money they don't care about us. VALVe cares for us!!!!

too bad it had to happen to Half-life 2...
why it didn't happen to a game such as Sims 2 (I've got nothing against this game) or any other game but Half-life 2?

HALF-LIFE2!!,HALF-LIFE2!!,HALF-LIFE2!!,HALF-LIFE2!!, HALF...

But EA publishes The Sims games I thought. But anyways, I would have rather this happened to that one dumb ass game that came out from VU. Lesiure Suite Larry Magna Cum Ladu or something like that. It looks like a piece of garbage if you ask me.

lol if we get enough people to pull out their crowbars... :D
That video is funny. Lol. "Hello out there Half-Lifers! Damn, I am about to drop some science on you. And, you are ugly." At the end Gordon walks closer and pulls out his crowbar and hits him in the head lol. Classic :afro:

Why does everyone hate Vivendi? Valve are the greedy ones who shafted Vivendi with Steam.

How would you feel if a company signed a deal with you to make a certain number of games, then they go and come out with Steam. You'd be a little bit pissed...

I didn't say Valve wasn't greedy but let's not forget they made the game...bouth games.
Everyone's greedy...but some earn their money and some earn their money of other pleople backs.....not that VU isn't doing anything at all, but what they are doing could be easly done by others like EA or Activision.

If someone would rip me off ignoring a signed contract i'd proly be pissed, but i would expect the other side to screw me over in one way or another to start with, that's why we signed the contract in the first place,no? This is the way big bussness are done....in the shady area of settlments outside the court.

As for why it had to happen to HL2...this one is easy, it's the most anticipated game now since doom 3 is already out(not counting Duke Nukem Forever, since it is going to be out any minute now :naughty: ) and it's going to be a very profitable game, so no wonder everyone (*hint*VU*hint*) wants as much as they can get from it.

The only thing that EA published and i got hooked with was C&C Generals. and yeah EA doesn't publish only Maxis' Softwares (The Sims)
