Hiya all

I've got a 1mbps/1mbps connection which has been working really well. I just reformatted my comp and by getting rid of all that hiding spyware I got a nice boost to my net speeds. That is, when not playing CSS.

I'm currently using Sygate's firewall, which doesn't seem to affect my d/l speeds or my ping on any other mp game. For one reason or a nother CSS gives me pings of over 400. It's actually not that laggy, but it freezes very now and then and when it moves again I often find myself dead. Sounds are laggy as hell and I get timeouts when server's changing map.

I used to have my ping steadily less than 60. The server-pings I get at the server browser window are normal as they used to be, high ping only seen ingame. Disabling the firewall doesn't seem to have any visible effect. I'm all confused 'cos all worked really well before the reformat. Any suggestions?

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM,to the last detail. I reformatted and now, 1000 ping and I am 2 minutes behind everyone else in the game!!??

HELP

To the second person:

Firewalls check everything that comes into your computer, its a strong posibility that your CPU can't handle checking everything that comes in through the Modem and still process CS: S.

Disable the Firewall whilst you play, at least just the once you won't get attacked.

To the first person:

Check what processes you have running in task manager and see how much resources they are using up, anything being run under your username you are not sure of, close it

I had a similar problem which turned out to be caused by my firewall software. Norton will allow communication, but can cause delays unless you configure it to allow the game full access to the net. Apparently the auto-configure option is not good enough. I ran into the problem again when I installed winxp sp2. In typical Microsoft fashion, it decided that windows built in firewall should be enabled against my wishes, in spite of already having an active firewall. Disabling windows firewall solved the problem.

ps: I would NEVER play online without a firewall. When I look at my firewall logs I can't believe the number off attack attempts are made.
