i hope im not the only one to notice that the wall strafe bug in half life 1 (whereby, by strafing and walking along a wall, it would make you walk significantly faster) has been KEPT for hl2?

why if this was a bug, has this been kept? is it deliberate, or a mistake in the engine?

maybe you know the reasons, but i couldnt find any.

oogly?

Not only that, but you can still bunnyhop. As to why they left it in, your guess is as good as mine.

Perhaps they didn't bother modifying the movement code particularily much, it shouldn't be too engine specific.

in hl1 it seemed as if wall strafe was embedded within the engine, hence it was called a "bug". bunny hopping, could in certain respects be turned off.

I think they were trying to keep the feel of the game the same as the first one.

Didn't know about the wall strafe bug, but the bunny hop one is rediculous. I realised at a very early stage in the game that you can move about at almost sprint pace just by stabbing the jump key over and over. Kind of an immersion killer really...

Bunny hopping isn't just jumping repeatedly. It's jumping AND STRAFING in such a manner as to increase your speed astromomically. (To the point it looks like hacking if you don't know what's going on.) This is sometimes also referred to as "strafe jumping".

Ah, well in that case I guess the regular jump is screwed up as well then :)

Yeah, personally I separate the terms.
Bunny hopping= jumping constantly with no loss in speed
Strafe jumping= increase your speed

They problably ment the same thing at one time but I think it was CS 1.3 (or was it 1.4) or so where they killed the Strafe jumping but you could still just jump and most people then label that as bunny hopping.
