Well, the new DNA driver is out (a slightly modified ATI catalyst driver) and now it's based on the 4.8 Beta. It is very stable, but the coolest feature is that when you install the driver it gives you an option of choosing to install a special driver that was specifically tweaked for Doom 3 (or you can install the normal verion). Naturally the doom 3 specific driver might create some problems with other games (Knights of teh Old Republic and MP 2 run just fine).

Now does Doom 3 improve with this. YES. I tried all the other tweaks and got very little out of it. With this driver my framerates are much more stable although not significatnly higher. What I mean with this is that if you play with 40fps you won't see suddenly 50fps, but when you are in battles the drop in fps will be lower. I used to drop to 20-25 in battles (45 normal). With this driver I'm always above 30-35 (sweet), although I don't get above 45-50 when characters are around (just like with the 4.7).

Here is the link and for those that just got D3 or plan to replay it, this might make for a more pleasurable experience: http://www.dna-drivers.nl/viewtopic.php?t=3024

PS: Make sure that you delete your previous drivers and use ATITool for complete deletion of all drivers (just going into the control pannel does not delete eveyrthing).

DNA drivers automatically remove your old drivers... don't need to worry about that. And I've used these since last week (or early this week... don't remember). They're alright.

DNA drivers don't remove everything, a couple of ATI applications for some reason never get installed, that's why it's always good to run a driver cleaner, so those applications don't accumulate.

What's the difference between Normal, High and Ultra installs?

Edit: nevermind, I see they're similar, just different IQ settings for higher performance

sort of off topic but i have a geforcefx and i was wondering if anyone had heard any news if nvidea is planning to release a driver like this once hl2 comes out?

No, Valve took the time and made code path for the FX series, I believe 5200-5600, other than that they other FX cards should do "ok" but I don't really know too much about what they did for the FX cards. Search the "Info only Valve thread" or email them.

Well it can't be as bad as Running Doom 3 on Low on everything with none of the special effects and getting as low as 4fps (Running mainly at about 15) on a P4 1.5 and Radeon 9600
