I've decided to look into trying to sell some images to get a few extra quid in the bank but also to try and get some more gear! The plan right now is to finish off organising the images I've uploaded, some descriptions and some more general descriptions for the front page of the site. Also need to set up price plans too. basically Its not all fixed up yet. Once its sorted the plan is to set aside some budget for advertising in some of the local Brighton mags and then hope for the best (wont spent a lot of money just in case!) - And then hope for the best.

Link to the site!

^^ linky!

It would be awesome to hear some opinions about which images work and which don't. All the images will be sold as prints and so I've been trying to decide which images would look good on some f00's wall in their living room which is harder then it sounds! So if there are any images which you believe really would look awful on a wall let me know! But also which images you would print or would look great on a wall, again let us know! The more opinions the better! :)

Thanks for any help!

I've taken a quick look at your photos, and I think they look cool, but you need to have a lot more uploaded to hope to sell something. Also you would have better odds of selling if that site offered other types of items besides just prints.

I've personally had my shop open for a little over a year now, and if there is anything I've learned, it's that it is extremely hard to sell art in general, be it photos, renders, drawings or whatever. In my case my best selling items so far have been business cards, posters... eh, not so much.

Anyway, good luck.

first off, websites that disable right click...it almost becomes my mission to copy the image off the site.

secondly, some of the pictures do seem to have a lot of empty space, this is almost a photo of water.

I'm not sure if you have one, but you could host your images on flickr and just keep them small and see which photos get the most views. It also creates a way for you to provide links to prints of the photo.

hey martin! why the stoney face?

"£0.24" ..for a photo that you download and print? you'd probably make a hell of a lot more freelancing. too bad you dont live in canada I'd hire you to do product shots. but look in your neck of the woods; companies are always looking to hire photographers to take photos of their products as they never have an in house studio. hell my company is using a crappy point and shoot digital camera for products that cost in the tens of thousands of dollars

Ha yea the prices are borked right now. Thats something that all needs to be set up once I know which images use what aspect ratios so pictures print correctly. Just waiting for some details to come back from the photobox folk.

I'm really not a big fan of flicker and also think the gallery you can set up on photobox seem a little more pro then the generic flickr gubbins. Also I know these guys do good quality prints and are UK based which suites me well.

You can print out onto much more then paper/canvas. They have a wide range of mugs, t-shirts, puzzles and all that jizz but it all just seems a little cheesy and I'd like to think my pics are worth more then a crappy print on a mug. Quantity wise yea it is lacking a little bit right now but really hoping to beef it up more as time goes by.

Thanks for the feedback.

I like them.
For a website I made for someone I bought some white-background photos from www.istockphoto.com , apparently that's a good place to sell photos.(at least I know that place is quite popular for web designers)
I paid about 3 euro for each photo(resolution was like 800*600), I don't know how much of that goes to the person who uploaded them.

Thanks Dinnesch, will look into it!

Been trying to throw together a quick add, found out that its going to cost £180 for a 3 months and the mag gets sent out to around 10,000 homes with more being left in shops/pubs. Not sure if its really worth it. Any crit/suggestions for the ad would be super.
