War of the worlds mod for BF2!

just about to post that Tiimmyy, Hope they do a good job as it will be hard to pull off.

I could only see this working if it was 64 USMC vs 4 or 5 AI controlled Tripods...

Co-Op always wins.

while i see this being done well as a bf2 mod, i have the feeling that the source engine would do a much better job at portraying the war of the worlds universe. i say this not just because the source engine has already demonstrated top notch tripod-like battles via striders, but because of its ability to better represent that urban feel necessary. i know bf2 also does this, but it seems to me that hl2 may do it better. for a wotw map with 20 or so U.S. forces fighting a few tripods, the maps wouldnt necessarily need to be bf2 size.

A lot, if not most, of WotW environment took place on open end plains. BF2 excels at large quantities of shit, though, which is funner in general. Source was built for 16v16 fights, not grand scale but not too small either.

BF2 has the better engine for this kind of thing.

I still disagree.

While what we saw in HL2 was on a small scale of urban fighting, I have no doubt in Source that in can give us great gameplay in a larger environment.

When I'm playing a game in Source, I feel as if I'm really there, while in BF2, it feels like I'm playing a game.

And when I think of a WotW game/mod, I think of urban combat, as in the last fight between U.S. soldiers and a tripod. That environment, which Source could render gorgeously.

Erm, maybe its you who should read. The thread was about 'What if there was a .../ Good idea for a mod' not 'omgz one is in production' :upstare:

thats exactly how i feel. even though battles did take place in more open environments, i dont think they would work too well gameplay-wise. as infantry, you would need the cover that an urban area would provide, and i think that type of environment is much better depicted on the source engine.
