War of The Worlds teaser up

No, New York and LA have been destroyed so many times in America's effort to save the world from "The Bad guys" its just getting tired...Besides, the original story really was great, and in fact I have a "musical" type version on tape which sticks to the story relatively weel. Its really really much better. If you change the setting, then you change the whole idea of it really...
I suppose Like The Dark Elf already said. The time has changed already...but still, it would be nice for it to be in the UK still. It would have been fun to see it recreated in the original time and locale...but I'm sure this will be a good film, I'l just have to wait another 10 years to see if they do it again.

Taken, yup.
For those who have not seen the series it is kind of like this, imagine finding out HL3 is coming out TOMMOROW. You queue outside for it in the cold before running back to jam it in your cd drive. Then you find out that the combine are from mars and g-man is gordon freeman from the future.
That series built up so much suspence and mystery, only to give the answers you already new and ending it all in spectacular cheesyness, "im just a little girl", just plain terrible.

Yeah I was rather dissapointed in that too. The series was very up and down. They killed off the most interesting character before the half-way point of the 14+ hour series; a lot of the fear and creepiness was lost after the first episode (although it picked up again later in when the military started attacking). In the end it was really just a drama, with an alien story as a concept. But even if the story got poor, the acting was pretty good.

That's why I'm interested in this. It'll be refreshing to see malevolant aliens for a change. Anyone know what rating they're aiming for? PG, R, etc.?

Well apparantly its pretty much based more on the Radio play than the H. G. Wells original.. set in some US small town.

Oh and looks like 'ol Tom saves the day too heh, make of that what you will, oh and there's some picture floating around that looks to have some set based section of a Fighting Machine of sorts.. shiny metal if its part of it, though I'm hoping its just for shadowing and the real thing will be placed on top of it later in post.

Careful now, you don't want to ruin the movie for some of us. :p

Ok I'll spoil the next Titanic movie ending instead then :p

Oh yeah, and judging by some of the poster concepts, the Fighting Machines "might" be based more on the original style, the kind with the arms holding the raygun box type shenanigans. Course, those are just concepts and don't reflect how the final things will look.. but its possible.

If they look anything like this i'll be happy!

how cool is that site matt! that has tons of info. i'm gonna spend the next 10 minutes soaking up all that information....

*edit* btw farrow, if you look at the trailer the people coming out to look at the sky seem to be in an american suberb area.... you don't really get communities like that here, so like TDE said, it's probally set in the US.

Dont get your hopes up. Pendragon Pictures claimed to be spending 126 million dollars on its version (upping it every few months). Oh and Pendragon's business practices are well documented.

It also at one point claimed Cruise was working _for_ them. hehe

Check out its previous movie "Chrome" for an idea of the FX your gonna get in the pendragon version

Ok so i will...but I won't enjoy it! Even the bits I enjoy.
Damn straight. Not only is it supposed to be set there, but aren't Sci-Fi movies set in the UK just generally cooler anyway?

If he didn't follow the book...well...we will have to wait and see the ending.

It turns out that they can be killed by smallpox, so we make some. They die, the end.

I think on some site it says that the film will have more of an industrial and working class theme.

I expect lots of explosions and aliens getting there asses handed to them.Kinda like the rest of the aliens vs humans films out there. (sarcasm)

I think they should have the aliens win. At least it would provide for an interesting twist at the ending. :)

Actually thats a myth, it wasn't _as_ bad as people seem to remember it being. Just a few people lost the plot, history just remembered it as some major thing.
My great grandpa on my dad's side lived in New York at the time and was actually getting ready to evacuate when it was revealed that it was just a play.

This movie has me interested, I loved the original book.
Too bad it's already not in it's original setting :-\

*almost faints*

You know that film?... wow, I thought me and my dad were the only ones around who even remembered it.. I saw it a few years ago, some parts of it really scared me, which was very impressive for something so old/low budget. I wish they'd show it again.
