There was a thread receantly about Angry Lawyers exploits in painting a Firmir army for Warhammer Fantasy battles. A lot of people told us of their various W40k armies, without showing them.

So here is a thread for doing just that. Show your handywork with a brush and what you've done with your w40k army!

Personally I just started a Necron army... and being my first ever paint job, I thought it turned out all right. Here is what I've done so far.

The front

And the back

*hiss* Flock the bases. And maybe a light wash of ink to make them look greased up.

Greased up in an entirely heterosexual way.

Otherwise I like it.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. These arn't finished yet. I've still got to flock the bases, and do up the hyroglyph. However personally... I don't like inkwashes... It's too late for an inkwash anyways, as the all important green bit is in. :P

Wooo!

I recently decided to get back into 40k (therefore guaranteeing I never have money again) and will buy lots of bits for converting an Adeptus Mechanicus army in the new year.

Advice an criticisms:

Inks are your best friend - they're a really quick way to get shading, and I use it all the time. Necrons are great for this - use a watered-down black ink on the metal, and it'll make them look infinitely more detailed. A blue or green wash would work well on the green bits, and use a chesnut or red wash on the cloak. It's never too late to apply a wash, trust me.

If I have the time, I'll do a bit of an example on one of the folks I'm currently painting.

I assume you know how to drybrush?

I thought the Necrons were one of the more original space-concepts I've seen in a while.
Robot-Alien race (if i remember correctly) looking like Skeletons from Fantasy just adds alot.

Though, in the end, I like Empire the best :P not even Space Marines, Cadians ftw! :P

Adeptus Arbites, and the Adeptus Mechanicus have always been my favourites. The Arbites, because they're like what would happen if you let Numbers control the police in the far future, and the Mechanicus because cyborgs rock.

I know how to inkwash as well. Those models there are drybrushed. Being my first foray into model painting, I wanted to keep it simple. So I did an undercoat of chaos black and drybrushed boltgun metal onto them. Then I did up the shoulders and guns.

The flash didn't really do the texture any justice. >.>

Thanks for the advice anyways. When I can get my hands on some ink, I'll try it out.

Elves > Skaven.

For those interested, those are Sea Guard - made from combining bits from the Elven Spearmen sprue, and the Elven Archers sprue.

I haven't been into the collecting and painting thing in a long time, but I still like all the lore 'n' stuff. :D

Now stand still while Urien Rakarth uses your face as a wash towel.

We'll see what you think when a unit of slaves crashes into your knights(/High Elf equivelent of knights, never knew much about the High Elf army) and then the rattling guns open fire!

Well, Fimir > Skaven, because the Fimir are based on Irish Mythology. Plus they steal wimminz.

I got an Cadian Imperial Guard army (which is tint of the British Army with my tanks, yet also with some Halo/Aliens Tau dropships) a Chaos Iron Warriors army (it was, mainly, an armoured army compromising of a good few tanks/APC's but they have slowly decreased as I've been needing the tanks for conversions in my Imperial Guard army) and remenents of Tau, Orks (Speed Freekz), Tyranids and Space Marines.

Nothing is really finished painted. The proudest thing I've painted is my Iron Warriors Dreadnought (a new plastic pick n' mix parts one, not the crappy looking metal ones) and several odd soldiers from each army, normally the ones that look the coolest like an Guardsmen kneeling down yelling into a radio or a soldier sliding a rocket into the tube, etc.

I've got a bunch of 40K stuff, but I'm a rubbish painter. However, I also have some of my brother's old stuff, which is pretty good. I'll post some pics up later.

Taken with lego webcam, not so good quality. Just thought i'd put them for show -_-

I had a Tau army. My one greatest move EVER was when I wad fihting a FFA with 2 Space Marine Armies. I was the entire field away (I played at a local Games Workshop store) and I just kept pegging his commander. Eventually, one of my Fire Warriors, (Highly decorated, now.) Pegged him in the head (6's!) Commander got pwnt, and his entire army lost morale, ran away, and started fighting the other guys. Also, I once fielded two hammerheads. One got killed in the beginning by a one of those dammed artiller in the Imperial Guard, and the other kept missing. I stopped about a year or two ago, due to school, so I havnt gotten the updated codex yet. Nor any of the sw33t new vehicles.

I haven't been paying attention to 40k for a couple of years... if I had the time I'd love to get back into it, the universe is so amazing

So, I have a lot of money to spend at the moment. So today I went out, got myself another squad of necron warriors, a squad of Wraiths and a Monolith. I took it out of the box, and man this is gonna be a big job. Any pointers for painting the huge things like this monolith before I start?

I used to play and collect.

I gave up, because it was ridiculously expensive, boring and uncool.

You're the last person able to deem something "Uncool".

The expense isn't that much when you're working for the burgeois, and avoid buying new stuff until you've finished painting the rest of the stuff you have.
