Warhammer 40k Shooter Footage

This damn cut scene while you're killing stuff trend has to stop before it gets worse. It only looks awkward and rips you from the gameplay every time you kill something, and you continue getting shot while you lose control of your character.

I'm curious. It defo looks the part and its clearly a very early build. Will have to wait and see.

Urgh. I thought this kind of ugly third-person shooter presentation was stopped by the over-the-shoulder trend.

That looks like shit but I'll keep my eye on it, I really want a proper 40k shooter.

Cut it a break for a couple of reasons:

1. It's an extremely early build. It will improve quite a bit.

2. It is the Warhammer universe so it already has a whole lot more going for it than the Gears universe. I have been into it since the 80s thanks to my White Dwarf subscription.

It should probably be mentioned that the only GOW similarity is, really, the camera styles. Everything else that GOW did was very much inspired by Warhammer 40k, or at least I believe it is.

looks like shit

I'ma stick to the rts adaption.

It's interesting, artistically, but the "cinemaction" moments are going to get very repetitive. The combat reminds me of ninja games like Shinobi, which are totally inappropriate for the wh40k 'verse, I feel. Combat ought to be a fine mix of ranged, melee, and "God of War" esque combat without all the totally unbelievable stunts. The Space Marine seems to "close in" on his opponents unrealistically, as if he were a ninja- and the design of the parry seems to be completely overpowered. The beauty of combat in games is that you deal out damage not only to kill the enemy, but to prevent your own death. Here, combat seems to grant a player with quick reflexes partial immortality from melee attacks.

And I'll be sorely disappointed if they don't make this a squad based game with co-op and various pilotable vehicles.

Why can't they make something interesting set in the world of WH40K, like an RPG or other game focusing on storytelling rathen than slaughtering?

In the grim darkness of the future, there is only war.

;)

Nah I kid, I wouldn't mind seeing something a little different. Actually, I'm not sure what I'd like to see out of the 40K universe, if I'm honest.

They would probably run out of ideas for the cut-scenes. Whenever I hear "Warhammer" as a video game, I immediately think of the poorly thought-out trailers where one guy gets killed by another guy, who then gets killed by a third guy on the same team as the first guy, but then that guy gets killed too, but by a guy from a different team - then he gets sliced in half by some other guy; there's probably a big explosion somewhere and then the video ends. [/run-on sentence]

not a fan...the visuals are charming but the game play looks like ass

My thoughts exactly. An RPG would be great in this universe. I still don't know why they do not have a solid Baldur's Gate style RPG set in the Lord of the Rings world. It is truly shocking to me. It's a no-brainer!!

No no, use the Lord of the Rings license to make a Star Wars Battlefield clone. Yeah. A Star Wars Battlefield clone.

QFT

This doesn't look any better than Fire Warrior though, so I'm not gonna hold my breath.

the cutscene during the fights totally kill it, but I am hoping they do it right, ive wanted to play a 40k shooter for ages

This. But I'll still get it, because I'm a 40k dork. I almost even finished Fire Warrior, THATS how big a 40k dork I am.

But isn't Warhammer 40k, by definition, all about slaughtering? It would have to at least be a central theme to the RPG. ;)

It could... perhaps work if it were revolving around the Inquisition, maybe. The tabletop games of Inquisitor are often quite RPG like and in the general scheme of things, there are a lot of unique characters and actual plots that don't revolve around millions of faceless grunts stuck in trenches on some barren Chaos planet, shootin' bolter rounds at each other for hundreds of years.

Hell, it could even be a prequel. Or feature a primarch whose records had been deleted and explain why they were.

And why is it Ultramarines? D: They're so dull.

Make it Dark Angels any day.
