Warhammer

Yeah, the prices were a bit silly in the end. I moved onto Revell/Airfix models. Much better prices. An Imperial Guard tank for £20, and then theres Revell with a 1/35 German Panzer plus 4 infantry for £10. Way better, bigger models too. I have loads of 1/72 stuff, though. It's quite impressive, if I may say so myself.

You can still get things for low prices on E-Bay, which is good.

The 80's had some pretty awesome miniatures. I love collecting bits from the earliest years (hence my fascination with Fimir).

Part of the price issue is due to the fact that there were laws passed all over the place banning lead in miniatures, causing them to have to switch to White Metal. That, and inflation. And also because they have no major competitors.

I can remember a competitor cropped up, was like an alternative ww1 game....loads of decent minatures and very good prices, i was going to get some and then games workshop bought them out, broke all the moulds and melted down all their figure stock! they were only out for a couple of weeks.

I can't remember the name, tho.

Sure that happened? They've yet to buy out Reaper Miniatures, and they're a pretty strong opponent now.

I never really saw the appeal in warhammer. All that painting, and money and effort! :(

Not to flame or anything but what's so fun about it? :)

The painting and effort, to be honest. Also playing the game.

To analogise - what's the point in painting a picture if you can buy a print?

WTFPWNing an entire (badly deployed) enemy army in the first turn. Man, Having total fire superiority is fun.

I tale it you're either a gun-line Warhammer player, or you play 40K.

Winning with High Elves is the most difficult thing ever.
