Was Breen killed too soon?

If he was killed, then yes, it was too soon. He was just too important to die. We needed him. He was just way too cool a character to have been silenced so fast.

Plus everyone knows I always agreed with Dr. Breen, so of course I'm gonna say they shouldn't have killed him off (if they did).

O.O I didn't know you agreed with Breen, I was like the same, but I thought I was the only one... Every one else was (so I thought) conservative, and hated him for his instinct speeches, or talking about how humanity sucks... which I agree with...

Synths are the way to go:thumbs:

You and me, man, you and me. :D

 Together we'll undermine all the dirty rebels in this forum and continue to fight the good fight against their foolish resistance.

Long live Dr. Breen! Long live the Combine! Long live the human race in synthefied immortality!

I'll eat my hat if it turns out Breen's dead.

I went into a whole explanation as to why I think he's still alive, mainly relying on storytelling techniques and the ambiguity on Valve's part. Let's face it. If he's dead, there's no sense in Valve being so secretive about it. What on Earth could they profit from such a tactic other than pissing people off? I am entirely confident that we have not seen the last of him.

And I gotta side a bit with Darkside. Breen was necessary for humanity's survival, and he doesn't get enough credit for that. He's far from perfect, but he's also far from unreasonable. And he was the best shot the world had at the time.

ADDED: RIP Gordon Frohman :(

The Combine Advisor could either be Dr.Breen in a host body, or the Advisor that dr.Breen used to talk with in HL2. But i do think it's Dr.Breen since he was the only one spamming those Combine screens, follwing Freeman...Or something :s

Indeed. I'd also like to add that they're not just being secretive about it, but they've continually hinted to some revelation about Dr. Breen for the past two games. Episode One was supposed to clarify whether Breen survived his fall, but instead they put in teaser scenes like showing Breen in the intro and having Alyx freak out when she saw Breen on the monitor. "Oh, it was just a recording!"

And (someone correct me if I'm wrong) aren't they supposed to speak of Dr. Breen's fate more in Episode Two? If so, they're just teasing us with the prospect of finally finding out if he lived or died, and frankly, as Absinthe said, it'd just piss people off. They'd be stringing us along if he weren't alive still. If that were the case (if he is dead) there will be something vastly important revealed about him either in this game or the next game, simply because they keep bringing him up. If his involvement in the story was over and done with, they'd just cast him aside. I highly doubt Valve has any reason to milk the character, so he's either alive or we're going to hear big things about him after all this foreshadowing and buildup.

That's three! Everyone who loves (and agrees with) Breen, speak up. Let's get a Combine-supporter presence going. Don't let the resistance win! Don't be fooled by all their talk of "taking back the planet" and "the Combine is evil"; they'd all sooner see the human race dead! They are anti-science, anti-progress, and anti-life. Up with Breen!

Yes, go Breen! The best character in Half-Life 2! :D

I really should dig around the voice files sometime...some of that cut stuff sounds cool.

Well the stuff I've been talking about isn't in the sound files. But there's still some good stuff in the gcf files to listen to that weren't in the game. Especially for people who love vortigaunts. ;) They have a lot of stuff to listen to.

Breen ftw! I can't contain myself no longer! Highest evolutionary and synthetic stages for all! Mwhhahahahahhah!
EDIT: BTW what those vorti things Darkside? I love them :D

They have a lot of lines in the gcfs right now that we'll probably hear in Episode Two. All the stuff for the vortigaunts following you around, and engaging in combat, that sort of thing. "Our life for the Freeman!" and along those lines.

Breen is not dead, he is teh combine advisor now as you seen in the EP1. And if u listen the commentary in that room it says: ''This place is the intoduction to the advisors in EP2!!! Lol, Breen will be back.

PS Why didnt the Breen bought a space suit from eBay?

The same reason we know nothing of the g-man. To keep some mystery.

The reason there's secrecy surrounding the G-Man is because it's obvious he has a major role and can be creatively pursued further by Valve.

A deceased Breen is a dead end. Shrouding it with question marks is not mystery. At least not of any satisfactory quality. It's shallow, pointlessly teasing, and entirely worthy of disdain. There's nothing to gain from it except scorn. And I trust Valve is well aware of this.

Good mystery serves a purpose. Leading the player on for the sake of it is bad writing.

Its obvious: Breen was the combine advisor that was trying to kill you in episode one.

...Or not. But I just thought of that, and thought it might be possible.

That's possible. I'm not holding my breath though.

Frankly, if Breen's return is in the form of a slug, I'd prefer him to be dead. It might as well be a different character. The attraction to Breen was his articulate, passionate, thought-provoking dialogue. That's kind of lost when he's relegated to gurgles and moans.

PS Why didnt the Breen bought a space suit from eBay?

Probably because:

1) ebay was destroyed as with humanity's internet connection (NOOOO)

2) ebay would be empty, seeing as humans now only posess crappy tvs, pcs/vcrs/other computer software from ages ago.

3) Because (if the internet still exists) Breen is on... for lack of a better term; 'other sites'

Damn my crappy computer DAMMIT!!! If I had HL2 on it, then, maybe then, I could here these vortigant lines (even though my signature says what it does)

Breen is probably not among the slugs. Reason being, what combine would actually let him use itself as a host for his mind? Doesn't seem like something these beings would do.

I'm still holding out for mecha-Breen.

I'm still holding out for mecha-Breen.

That was totally what I was holding out for as a final boss in HL2. Instead of jumping around shooting hoops into the teleporter, Gordon would duke it out with MECHA BREEN with the LASERS and the MISSILES and the ORBITAL CANNONS powered by a DARK ENERGY REACTOR which would ALSO BE GOOD.

MECHA BREEN ATTTAAAAAACKKKK!!!!!!
(It's over nine-thouuuuusssssaaaaaaand!)

lol.

Mecha-Breen, would have to have jump jets!

Also, I think the teleporter was essential, Breen was trying to escape, not prance around like a huge piece of metal. Though it's be awesome!

I'd laugh if that combine host, was the advisor, not Breen, and they put him in the host of a headcrab. Also, if Breen was trying to be teleported OUT OF the citdael, why would you find him inside still (EP 1 if I'm not mistaken)

Breen is not dead! And he will come out the same time we don't need him. And with an army of big-headed ugly stinking aliens to finish his dirty work. And laundry too. If my opinion is listened to, it was really interesting to listen to Breen talking. If I was Gordon, I would have probably become his worker... not for long of course, only until I would have poisoned most of the Combine. And why did Breen become the Earth's dictator after all? Maybe he created this mess in Black mesa? maybe I'll start a thread or something on this thought.

What, yours too? Is he eating them or something? No! Oedipuss!

He's liberating them from the resistance. You know what the rebels do with cats? They subject them to terrible teleporter experiments, turning them inside out and all other nastiness that'd make the SPCA weep.

Breen's just trying to save the cats. JUST LIKE HE SAVED HUMANITY.

I have nightmare's about that cat! Damn thing still haunts me!

Collect five pasties with meat and gather a cat! That's real in my country. They make those pasties with cats and dogs. Maybe Breen supplied the Combine's snack-bar with cats. They are tasty with mustard and greece salad.

Breen was a well-written character, but I think he is no longer necessary.

yeah! i agree to ShadowJustice. breen's presence is no longer necessary. i guess breen was used to intoduce the combine boss to freeman(sneak peek during hl2 end and ep1 beginning).
