Depends on how you look at it. I think we will see ALOT of separate object in HL2, piping, boxes, beams, maybe even doors and windows, the wrecked cars, wirings, trees, rubble and more... If you strip away everything like this (that you have already made for the game), you see that the levels are fairly basic, and new ones could be made fairly fast. Take barricade, it would be just the housings and the road left (the only complex thing would be the wrecked house). Well, that is assuming its built like this... I would do it like this, after seeing how complex and diverse levels one can do in Morrowind. The building technique is like 100x faster than normal HL once you got the objects done.Originally posted by MoJo|Night
I belive the levels are from the final game, the areas etc are just too big to make and not include.
Yeah, I too think its from the game. But my point was that Valve already have 80% of the level BEFORE they even start it, so the amount of work is actually pretty small.Originally posted by marksmanHL2
oh come on, of course they are from the game (opinion)
All through we have heard of the combine etc. And we see them in the vids. The bugait one stuff. We heard of antlions before we saw them ourselves. The amount of work that goes into something like that doesent get wasted. Trust me on this
I disagree on Klieners - there's nothing at all behind the Strider when it breaks through the wall. With Kleiners lab and tunnels though the converstion is probably an indication that it's in game levels.
You really think they would do all that just for a demo? Then comes the problem: It shows to little of source! They could have made REALLY impressive enviroments with all the shaders and bump mapping, yet the E3 demo is fairly "normal" in most spots... But maybe that would have made the show too impressive and let people down...Originally posted by jAkUp
its not the final game. valve wants the game to be a surprise. remember hafl life 1??? they even made a special demo for the game to not ruin any part of the full version.
Lot's of developers waste for for E3. Bungie have done the same with Halo 2.You really think they would do all that just for a demo?
True, but those tools have been maturing over a 5-year period. I think that's long enough to learn them. You guys are also forgetting that the design team had to learn the tools, so when you say, "Why would they put all that work into a demo?" the simple answer could be, it may have been a great way for the map makers to hone their skills before tackling the game content.
