I'm currently playing through Half-Life 2 once again, but there's one thing I want to ask because it was quite some time ago I completed HL2 so I can't really remember so well.

Anyway, the question is; was this music ever used in Half-Life 2? It's from the original, played in the chapter "On A Rail" almost at the beginning of it in fact. Or to be more specific, it plays during the part when you're riding the train on the electrified water right after the section were you meet a security guard.

It's a really nice piece of music, it's pretty mysterious and kind of scary at the same time. It gives you the feeling of being abandoned, left alone fighting the aliens and grunts creeping up behind you. I think it fits the mood of the Half-Life universe perfectly. :)

In case you missed it, you can listen to it here (if you got QuickTime, just click on the link and it'll start playing. Otherwise, just right click and "Save as").

i dont know... but it sure as hell sounds cool... im gonna save this!!! :D

Yeah, it sounds familiar. For some reason, I don't remember the part of the game that you're mentioning though :\

I think it was used in one of the later sections of hl2 where you're in a room with water. Meh, I donno.

The part with the security guard, you also ride down an elevator that you can see behind him (with a bunch of Barnacles up in the ceiling).

Here’s the part with the electrified water. The music starts to play right after you leave the elevator.

You mean the part with the wounded rebel and a bunch of zombies and fast zombies spawning in the water?

I don't think it was, but I'm not sure. I'll have to play through it again hehe :p

Those screenshots are from Half-Life ONE, dude. In that case, yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about.

thats the point, it's what he's referring to, the chapter On A Rail

ahh memories, i loved the HL music....HL2 was cool also but not as "eery" as the first one, this is a perfect example of that.

Heh. I just played the "On A Rail" chapter just a few minutes ago.

Me too. I am replaying HL:S in these days.

I've just completed HL:S, OP4 and BS and are a bit into HL2 to see if this music even exist in the game and so far I haven't heard it. Valve reused (and remixed a few of them) some of the music from the original and it would be a shame if they didn't use this one in the game.

On a side note, I freakin' love the music at the start of Ravenholm. :)

Yes, I believe it is in HL2. The end of Anti-Citizen 1, in the sewer/power-plant section. Though I'm not 100%. I quite like it though, so I think I'll use it in my map.

That track is on the Half-Life 2 Soundtrack under the name "Triple Entanglement", and I think Samon is right about its location. Comparing the two tracks, it is clear that it was actually remixed for HL2. The alarm sound that goes throughout is a lot more subdued (it isn't as striking and appears to be slower from what I can tell). The difference is quite noticeable, I had to listen to both versions a few times to check that they were actually the same song. They have quite a different mood to them IMO

Thanks guys. I think I'll jump to that chapter and see if Samon's right, although I don't doubt you O' Great Samon.

Yep, that’s it. Just went through the start of the sewers in the "Anti-Citizen One" chapter and it played there, recognized it the second it started. Although I would have had preferred the original, this one was pretty good too but wasn’t really as "spooky" as the original. :)

Thanks again guys.

you pretty much got it down. the one in hl2 has the "bassy" part you hear throughout the song lowered down, you can barely hear it and its slowed down. if you turn the speakers up you can actually hear it though.

I also noticed some creepy background sounds in it :O

I was actually expecting to be wrong. :p
