Well i htought i just might ponder my thoughts to u fine people here on this forum.

For one i didnt see what all the hype about halo 2 was about. Sure i own the game for xbox... sure i love it. But it's hype wasnt at all that great to me. Im not dissing halo2 in any way! bungie rocks hardcore for making this series.. but i asnt excited over a game that didnt really break any boundries when it came fps. Sure coop ruled.. the story line was original. BUt im sorry it just didnt work for me.

Half-life 2 on the other hand, i am esatic for! why you may ask? Well for one, its pushing boundaries of gaming never before seen. It's completely revamped. As to put it in the words of pc gamer's chuck osborn... "half-life2 is arguably the best game ever made" And indeed it looks as if its going to be that way.

My final thought when compairing the two "gods" of games thus far.. i just think valve has perfected something that could very well change how we play our games. Bungie tried extremly hard at this and suceeded in their own glorified way.

Soo to end this blurb of a thought... i would just liek to say .. hl created a "revolution" in fps gaming. Halo expanded it. Half-life 2 , this coming 16th , will recreate the buisness as it did back in 97.

PEACE

MIKE

PS) My shouts go out to bungie... and of course VALVE! YEAH U GUYS ROCK!

PSS) im not a fanboy lol

Sarcasm is key my friend, jeez I even put the ;) guy to indicate that I disagree but respect his opinion.

Yay Half life!
Boo Halo!

er...Yay both heh..heh....uh.

But for me, My hype hasnt been very high for either. Of couse i WANT to play both games a lot but...y'know its just been TOO long of a wait. All that being hypedage is exhausting n stuff.

HL2 should have come out in the summer! Oh man that would have been so much better, but oh man didnt happen :hmph:

Whatever, when i play HL2 i will finally be happy.
But Halo 2 wouldnt make me any happier...

Boy is this thread gonna get some Hl2 vs Halo 2 idiots in it..

ARRRRRGGGHH i just feel totally mad about Halo 2 now that i've finished it. I mean, jeez it was easier then the last one, and shorter, and

seemed alot more like a corny action movie then a cool "Space Opera". Don't get me wrong i liked the twist how you could play as the Arbiter but giving him the LAST FREAKIN LEVEL OF THE GAME????? It felt more like MC was a secondary character...and what was with that cutscene with the giant venus fly-trap? What the heck was going on there? And the majority of the fights were all the same. 20 seconds of action, 5-40 seconds of walking. At least in the later part of the game. The Earth level was awesome but finished WAAAYYY too quickly. And ANOTHER library level? ;( That made Sparta a sad Panda.

Overall, it was nowhere near as good as the reviews make it out to be. If i had to rate the SP i'd give it 8.8. The first game was much better, even for its repetitiveness (Don't misinterpret me, i know i'm saying alot of negative shit about the game but its still great, i'm just majorly let down by the ending)

Bahhhhh i feel jibbed.
On the plus side the MP is wicked. When playing with just 2 people it reminds me of the good old days of GoldenEye. Haven't gotten a chance yet to play it on Xbox Live (Need a longer cable, like 10 metres). But hopefully its as great as everyone says it is

See, the ratings from the reviews were bought by M$.

I doubt they were bought. Maybe they just really thought it was that good. Maybe that got caught up in all the excitement. But i seriously doubt MS paid them off

(I have no idea if you're being sarcastic because its hard to tell on the internet)

Simply put H2 is a great FPS for a console that has very few. Also the coop is just to good to be dismissed.
Half Life 2 has to compete against a lot of other games while H2 is simply the best game of its genre on the XBOX.
To compare the 2 is just a matter of personal preference since they are on different platforms... There is no real subjective way to do it.

Well, half-sarcastic :) Probably the ratings were just overhyped by a few percent. From the spoiler you've posted it is still a great game, but it's far from being on a par with Half-Life 2 from a technological standpoint at least. And far from getting rates like 10/10. That's just pure hype.

Half-Life 2 has many competitors on PC but just not good enough. I think we know that for a quite a long time now. :D I belive that Halo 2 on PC would get ratings somewhere between Doom3 and FarCry.

Pretty much, yeah. This is why i dont trust any reviewers at all anymore.

Cant compare when HL2 isnt out yet...
But I think it will be way better than Doom or FC. Hey it is a HL funsite after all

And H2 would propably get lower ratings than Doom or FC if ported to the PC. Different market, different expectations.
After all, every game port is mostly subpar when compared to the original. For example Max Payne for consoles or Halo1 for the pc.

Out of interest - was that on Legendary?? (if so i'll be very annoyed :/)

Halo was always very easy and short on the easier difficulty levels - they are just for practise only ;) - before you start the 'real' game.

Physics puzzles alone sound like a lot of fun, as well as the manipulator. :D Just the integration of physics into the actual gameplay, I haven't seen any games that have managed the same feat. Not to mention the lip-sync technology they developed (which reads from a .wav file and .txt file and seems to generate them on it's own, without any manual animating required for the lips), which looks damned convenient for mod-makers and professional developers as well. :) Not to say that Halo 2 is a worse game because of it of course, you just asked for a list. :) Games don't really need to be furthering the genre in any real direction to be good, and Halo 2 seems to pull this off AFAIK.

I don't see how HL2 is pushing the boundaries...

Physics and a new engine, doesn't Halo 2 have that? or Max Payne 2? Or Doom 3?

Yeah, but physics in those games are little more than eye-candy, while Half-Life 2 apparently has logic puzzles that take advantage of the physics system (I remember reading about one in a review involving the airboat). And then there's the manipulator, which I'm sure is one of a kind. :D It's just the way the physics are integrated into the gameplay, a way that AFAIK no other game has done. Apart from that and the lip-sync technology, that would be it for pushing the boundaries, heh. The rest just seems to be a case of "I can do this better than you!" :p

Its Half Life 2, sequel to the biggest FPS in history and where as i dont believe most reviewers i believe them on this because ultimately they would of been comparing HL2 to HL1 and they rate it higher and better than the original which is more than i can say for Halo2.

Ok?

Edit/ Oh and i know Halo2 was rated higher in most reviews than the original but most reviews say the SP is actually worse and shorter than the original and i buy a FPS 'hyped' up game for SP not to mention Bungie boasted it had a good SP.

Jeez, keep up. I already said physics integration with gameplay (which seems to be a major part of the gameplay now, not just a cheap add-on as many might think), and lip sync technology. :)

Yay - Halo 2 arrived a day early \o/

Only on the second mission at the mo - and am finding it rock hard :) (on Legendary, of course ;))

I loved Halo 2's storyline. I did'nt mind playing as the Arbiter, and did'nt mind the switch between the two storylines.

The Graphics are stunning, ingame, not cutscene. :D I cant believe the environments, they are the best I've seen for XBox yet. Hands. Down.

but how is all that its pushing boundaries of gaming never before seen..

it's all nice and good and stuff, but it's nowhere near that statement.

hype?

Who really thought, or wanted, Halo 2 to push the 'boundries of gaming' anyway?

Better get back to it :)

lol - u can tell i've been playing H2 for too long now :)

Time to rest.

For all you know, Half-Life 2 got bumped up a few points out of hype as well.

Yes it is, the things HL2 is promising have never been done before to anywhere near this extent.

how about some proof, or maybe a list like i've said numerous times ?

all you people ever post is something about the physics, g-man, strider, or manipulator.

wowow groundbreaking, 'pushing boundaries' etc.

From what I understand (mainly from the Edge review) HL2 does nothing new - but it does do it better :) So much better that it's one of the greatest video games ever made.

We'll find out on the 16th \o/

Have you seen the E3 clips?

i was just gonna mention that, please dont dismiss half-life 2 just yet dude. Try to find as many e3 clips as u can. They are simply breath-taking. U might feel differently afterwards. (if u have already seen the majority of them.. well all i can say is... WOW..)

Lol i remember showing my dad the trap town video .. he was stunned and said: like whoaa shit .. this is a game!? lol... has that cool effect on people..

PEACE

Mike

tell me what is revolutionary instead of dancing around with questions like 'have you seen the e3 clips [ yes, of course, i'm a hl fan ]. etc.

Suit yourself man, personally Chronicles of Riddick dominates it in my opinion. Like, everything about Riddick is better (SP terms).

I'm just getting sick of straight forward shooters where its all shooting and no exploring or no breathing time before the next assault. Too much of the same thing happening over and over and over and over
