A post over at the Guru3d.com forums warns of a possible DOOM 3 CD key stealing exploit that everyone needs to be careful of. Apparently someone was advertising a co-op mode .pak file that when installed gives server admins the ability to access your CD key. Always be careful of of scams such as this and remember to never give your CD key out to anyone for any reason.

I read this at fpscentral.com and i dont know which version they are talking about but someone downloaded it and said there was nothing there that can steal your cdkeys, the problem could have been that the mod was crashing making all cdkeys be stuck that way and so when you tried to login it would give cdkey in use, kind of like what happened with far cry. The other possibility could have been that he packed his own cdkey by accident. On the other hand this could be all real, and for this i have removed my entire cdkey from the game just to be safe for a while.

Depends. I checked the co-op mod I had, it was clean. Only edited the maps list file, had nothing to do with cdkey theft.

Sounds like a made up rumor to me.

its real. What it does is when someone joins a co op server it crashes leaveing the admin of the server with there cd keys or something like that ......
