Not to step on any Portugese toes, but does anyone notice how biased tournaments seem to be to the hosts? I dont mean in just this tournament, I mean any tournament really. It seems if you're hosting it you get a whole lot further than if you're not hosting it. i.e. Euro 2004 (POR), World Cup 1998 (FR), World Cup 1966

Jeeeze, so much bitterness from England and Holland fans here. I thought the referee did well tonight, he made good decisions. Other refs would probably given Robben a free kick or two for his many awful dives. And Van Nistelrooy (sp?) was playing crap, the foul on Ricardo was not nice - scraping his studs down the back of his leg (although Ricardo did exaggerate a bit).

I'm happy that they won, not just because of that silly thing about being beaten by the best but from what I've heard the portuguese fans were really friendly and nice and the people in Portugal were very welcoming. well if portugal end up winning the tournament, they'll probably be the worst team to have done so. they're not world class by any means.

and remember: the referee for the final is Marcus Merk, the guy who refereed England v France in the 1st round. Marcus Merk is also German. Czech Republic beat Germany 2-1 in the 1st round. just like England and Holland got refs from countries they'd beaten (3-0 against Switzerland and the penalty shoot out against Sweden)...assuming Czech Republic make it to the final, they'll end up with a ref who's team was beaten convincingly in earlier rounds, Germany.
