Frankly, I think this is rubbish. If this is the way Valve/Vivendi meant to play it, that's one hell of a duff marketing job.I think the more likely explanation is that the secrecy and controversy is manufactured.
It is not the job of valve to make sure nvidia releases proper drivers. The fans have been demending benchmark's and valve does not have to wait to release this because nvidia will look bad. Even if they release proper drivers they might get an increase of 5 - 10 FPS max, this still doesn't compare to ATI. This enitre article seems like it's coming from a guy who has some kind of a problem with valve and ati, he then takes these views and ignores all the facts out. I am not saying he is wrong or right about the release date, however, use a little more common sense when writing an article like that. The masses await Half-Life 2 like rabid animals.
I also threw that theory out there because some other company got shanked in the back by Valve recently--at the Valve/ATI event where Radeon cards outperformed Nvidia cards in tests. The focus has been between the card manufacturers, but Valve is in the center of everything. They knew that Nvidia hadn't released new drivers yet and would be at a disadvantage. Valve may have seen a strategic move here considering ATI's rise in market share in the past year. Just because Nvidia is at the top right now doesn't mean it's invincible. Look what happened to the former king, 3dfx. Of course, there's also a deal with ATI to bundle Half-Life 2 with video cards. Valve is no stranger to maneuvering to better position itself, so it may try to strike out on its own if it suits the company.
You might have a point, but you can't say that it isn't a bit odd how Valve publically decried NVidia in that way. I'm not quite sure what Valve gained from it, unless it's part of an ATI marketing thing.Originally posted by No Limit

Bwaha, Valve are OUR pawns. Slave away my little pretties. I'll give you a petty $50.00 for such a magnificent work
What's odd about it? People wanted benchmarks so they got benchmarks. It is not the fault of valve that nvidia has a much worse product, Valve's only responsibility was to release accurate benchmarks on today's technology. I have nothing against PHL and I think the article was well written, however, the information in it is extremely biased and taken off false information or simply speculation.Originally posted by koopa
