Heh,

I met a girl who doesn't avoid me because I'm a gamer.

I guess something did change...for me!

Because you're a gamer she doesn't avoid you, or avoiding you because you're a gamer is what she doesn't do?

You,sir, have blown my mind from confusion.

Out of the whole 2 girls I've ever liked, they both avoided/hated me when they found out how much I liked to play games. The girl mentioned before does not avoid me/hate me period.

They can't have been very good people anyway, then, if a single hobby of yours turned them away - unless you truly are obsessive to the point where it warps the rest of your life. Do you live in some kind of cultural backwater where computer games are still only for geeks? Or is nobody you know mature enough not to care?

Terminator/Short Recoil practices for the end of the world 5 hours a day. He would be really disappointed if he missed it.

you're 16

dude you don't grow up at 16, you do stupid things and act like an asshole.

stfu, moron! What the hell do you know about life!

/me slits wrists.

Oh wait, I'm not 16...

Oh shi-!

On the contrary, I'm feeling great this year. In 2007 I was FUCKED and I didn't know what to do about everything that was happening in my life, many of the things that happened last year were bad, and I felt like some people were dedicating their time to hurt my feelings. Damn, 2007 was really sad for me. Things started to change in December when ALL my problems vanished, I had an excellent christmas. 2008 is being a wonderful year and I had no problems with anything so far. It's perfect, and I feel that the years to come are going to be even better for me because things CHANGED for me!

Anyway, I'm happy.

Everyone who posted in this thread, except for me, now has thumb cancer.

What did you mean? (In a friendly tone - I'm interested :))

Well, there are a lot of things: Peak oil is one good example. Peak oil is the point at which global oil production reaches maximum. The point from which it will continually decline. Some experts argue oil production has already peaked. Given how much the majority of human civilization relies on oil this will have huge and widely felt consequences, and a lot of things will change whether we like it or not.

Personally, I think the proponents of new alternative fuels (like bio-fuels) are missing the point entirely. They're desperately searching for magical alternative solutions to fill petroleum's boots so they won't have to change anything about their lives, but I feel it's just the wishful thinking of people who are unwilling to accept change, of people who are unwilling to accept that in the future, they simply won't be able to afford to drive to work on an eight-lane freeway every day. Just like most alternative, "green" power sources, they're nice in theory but they will simply never make a noticeable dent in the problem. The only country were bio-fuels are practical, available and affordable for the average person is Brazil, and that's only with the help of extensive government subsidies and often at the expense of the environment.

Secondly, seeing as the world's population has grown at an unprecedented rate during the 20th century (world population has quadrupled since 1900), overpopulation is likely to become a problem in the near future, further exacerbating the problems of energy production and reducing pollution. Similarily, increasing demand for bio-fuels means less and less land will be available for growing food crops, which has already caused considerable food price rises. (See the Wikipedia article on the "Food vs. fuel" debate.) If - or, more likely, when - overcrowding becomes a problem, it's not unreasonable to expect much more frequent conflicts over natural resources in the future.

This article about the (mostly technological and political) challenges humanity may face in the near future makes for some interesting reading.

Meh, I've had a bad feeling for this planet for a long time. We're screwed :p

Is that like the "if your hand is bigger than your face..." joke?

Thumb cancer is serious business.

Why do you think you guys were getting an ominous feeling? Thumb cancer has come, and it shall not leave until it takes your thumbs with it.

Repent!

Posting twice in a thread where you already once blocked the cancer, gives you cancer.

*rereads..that makes no sense, oh well.*

Thumb cancer often ends up as PENIS CANCER after metastasis.

Get good use from it now lads.

I have no thumbs. I had them surgically removed to avoid thumb cancer. Thumb cancer won't be getting my thumbs, no way.

Unfortunately it managed to infiltrate your pinkies. There's no getting away from it.

Well, considering the basic consequence of thumb cancer would be getting your thumbs amputated, I can only applaud.
