He is just about the same as the last pope, he was the person that was closest to him. He was slighly more cautious about ecumenicisum, didn't want to blur the lines of the differant faiths, but he has already pleaged to open a dialoge with other faiths so I am confident he will continue his friend's legacey. He also OPPOSED the war in Iraq, (CptStern) along with John-Paul, and the whole vatican.Recoil said:

Anyone who knows anything about the church knows that the western church wanted its bishop (the bishop of Rome) to dominate Christianity. So they excommunicated the eastern church in 1054 (the schism), as did the eastern church to the western. This is why to this day the church is split in two between the eastern orthodox, and the western catholic...
furthermore during the fourth crusade, the frankish catholics on the orders of the then pope, razed constantinople to the ground and murdered its orthodox christian inhabitants.
so dont talk to me about the western catholic church, theyve always been the aggressive, autocratic wing of christianity. The eastern church to this day is ruled by a council of its bishops, with no one bishop wielding absolute power, though the patriarch of constantinople, is considered a 'first among equals'.
the catholics have to learn that they do not hold a monopoly on christianity. if it wasnt for the eastern byzantine, orthodox empire, western europe would have been conquered by the turks or arabs long before...they held off the invaders for a thousand years...(collapse of Western Empire in 5th Century to fall of constantinople to the turks in 15th century).
