Weapon names

Is there a way i can change the weapons names in the buy menu
eg. fabrique & national ....... = xm 104

i did have it downloaded but i didnt like the models. I figured i could probably extract it by itself and take the files, but what ones?

i kno back in 1.6 there was a txt file with all the menu options and everything. does this exist for source too? if so you can easily edit it

The AWP isn't an automatic weapon... otherwise you're right :E

use GCF scape to open counter-strike source shared.gcf
go into cstrike/resources and find the file called Cstrike_english.txt
you can edit the weapon names in there

So that they wont get in any legal trouble for using copyrighted gun names i guess.

This has always puzzled me - some games outright say what their weapons are, whereas some make up similar names. Why? Do the developers with the real names honestly license the names? Surely no-one would bother with that? Especially when it's games where the weapon names are far from integral.

well, If they don't get permission by the makers of those weapons and sell the game, they could be held liable to pay those manufacturers because the developers are making a profit by selling a product using other companies trademarked brand names. While I don't know if these firearm manufacturers would bother, they could, potentially. This is why when cs went from a free, fan created mod, to a product owned by valve - valve erred on the cautious side and removed that responsibility. I don't know if they were just being careful or if they were pressured to do so though.
