Weapons Help Please

Hi All
NEWB to editing! Im currently playing Half-Life 2 Ep 2
Basically i just want some schooling on how to edit guns ie Shotgun etc like amount of pellets damage......U know?

you can edit skill.cfg, which can be found in "source engine.gcf/hl2/cfg/" (you need GCF Scape to view *.GCF files.

Hey Lads
So it seems whenever i edit a file in hl2 or hl2 ep2, "VALVE" or Steam re downloads the files it thinks are missing.....
How do i get around this Fellas?
