Hey,
I'm kinda new to CS but got CS:S a last night. (Finnaly got steam working :) )
Anyways... I was a bit perplexed. The Krieg 552 and the bullpup weapons both have scopes... but I can't seem to use them. What's up with that?
Also, I thought that the HL2 engine had special material properties... but seems that you cant shoot through the awnings or through wood - even high high caliber guns.

you can shoot through wood with any kind of rifle. any kind of 9mm round using gun (eg, glock, usp (pistols) and the mp5, tmp, uzi (smg's)) will not penetrate wooden objects.

the wooden doors in de_dust can be penetrated, and so can the boxes below the bridge.

regarding the scope on the 552 and the bullpup, it takes a little amount of practice more than skill to fire them with the scope accurately. you have to wait for the kick back to finish and then fire again. never hold down fire (for any weapon that is), you have to click quickly. the gun will fire as fast as you can click. just take slow shots on bottles etc, and then get faster and faster with practice.

try hosting your own game, but put a password on it, therefore u'll be on your own to practice shooting, and any other techniques :E

Thanks for the heads up.
But what I meant about the bullpup and the Krieg is that I cant see a scope at all on them... they zoom closer when your press alt-fire... but theres no actual scope - even though theres a scope model on both weapons.

yeah you never actually look down the scope, only the zoom feature.

Wierd...
Why do they model the scopes then ? :)
They don't use the real names of the gun's (ie. the Bullup is a Steyer) so they might as well go the whole hog and not model the scope - if it's not going to be used.
Seems very strange to model a scope... and then not actually be able to use it... almost like modeling a nade launcher on a gun and not beeing able to use it.

that question we cant answer. i do agree that it's werid, but they would be classed a sniper rifles if they did have proper scopes. the bullpup and the 556 can also be used as normal rifles, whereas s rifles cant...if that makes sense.

i suppose it just makes them a slightly more effective rifle and can give you that extra edge on long distance shooting. why do you think they're so much more expensive???...

tbh tho i really dont know.

I believe they couldn't use real gun names due to legal reasons

but like every other game in the world uses the real names

That is because either the company is no longer around or the game is not being published (for instance a mod that is just starting out could use real gun names) but a mod like CS that is published and mass produced couldn't for legal reasons, that is atleast how I see it.

I love how the Desert Eagle 50. Caliber is renamed to NIGHTHAWK!!!

USP's are 45 caliber

Do you mean cross-hair?

it does feel that the guns dont shoot through wood and stuff as well, but i dont really care, its still fun :)

-merc

As for the shooting through things feature...I believe I heard they're adding being able to shoot through walls in CS:Source...

Being able to shoot through 15 feet thick walls is what makes CS.

I know it's not realistic, but, it is what seperates the terrible people from the good people.

No - that's horrible .... :)

And for the steyer/zigg scopes - it was always that way. Don't know why either. must be one of those "loveable" things that are so wrong with cs......;)

I was exaggerating too...not 15 feet...but 5 feet.

i think he means the black part around ur screen when u zoom with a sniper rifle. on these guns the whole screen zooms in instead of giving u the feel of looking down the actual scope.

the scope effect should be left to sniper rifles.

they only changed the weapon names after 1.5 (or 1.3 cant remember) :(
new names all suck, damn kiddy friendly cs.

and shooting thu walls should be put back, even if u do shoot thu stone. but u shouldnt be able to shoot as far thu stone as u can wood.

I dont think so i hated the shooting through walls since i started playing.. along long time ago...

yeah but when ur caining sum1 and they try to run behind a wall u can finish the job :p

Shooting through walls has always been a little cheesy IMO. It requires skill, of course, but sensible people wouldn't even think of it as possible and theirfor wouldn't eve consider it as a viable tactic.

fmpov this (shooting through walls) is not skillfull it is bugusing :D
im not talking about some edges - i mean thick, walls ;)

but since erveryone is doing it, i sometimes do it aswell. Just to make even chances. I hate it though... :(

but that's offtopic :dork:

for the names, my theory is that they didn't have permission to use the actual names of the weapons, somthing like that...

the case with the names is like that of GTA. they cant call cars by they're real names, unless the have permission, especially when theyre the super fast ones which beat the police cars

Anyone tried using CS 1.6 Scope sprites in CS Source?
nope but would be nice but the newer ones look more realistic, cept i think a true marksman would keep his scope cleaner than it is in the game... :)

Sorry, I worded that unclearly. What I ment was the custom sriptes you can get for the Sig and the Aug.

Infact, im going to go try it now!

EDIT:: Nope, it doesn't work.

Just notticed that unlike CS1.6 and before CS:Source doesnt even use a unique sprite for zooming in anyway, it uses the normal dynamic crosshair.
