weather effects in HL2?

The story takes place over 3 consecutive days. Not sure how much wether you would/should pack into that.

Not that i doubt you, but where does it say this? Just curious...

Yeah, rain'd be sweet. and lightning. and fog. and hail. and ice. etc...they would all be pretty cool.

They already have alright weather effects in Counter-Strike, so I assume they'll probably have better effects in HL2. What other weather do they really need other than rain, because I'm pretty sure it's still based in Roswell like the first one, so no need for snow.

Sort of on topic: I swear I've heard something about a plug-in that simulates real-time weather. Y'know, if you're playing at 3:00am, the game is played at night time. If it is raining while you play, it rains in the game. Most likely I'm way off on this one, but I remember thinking, "Wow, I gotta get that shit."

Good day.
That might've been from me. I posted an email to Valve about that (as a part of MP actually) in the "emails to Valve" topic. They kinda liked the idea of it :)

The day/night system was in some pokemon gameboy rpg I recall, where you could set a clock coinciding with real time.

hmmmmmmmm....... *dreams away of stocking snow and tracing footprints in HL³*

imagine if the snow actually started to pile up and gather on the roof of sheds and statues etc. That would be awesome

That would be crazy. Every single snowflake would have to have its own physics as if they were boxes or chairs. Youd need a skynet super computer to run it.

What? Don't all you guys have SkyNet SPC's like me ??? :D :burp:

Lightning would be great. If I recall rightly unreal 2 had some cool lightning, what a shit game that turned out to be.

i havent read this whole thread, but the other day i thought of somehting. i highly doubt us seeing any type of precipitation at all. whatever it was that caused the draught necessary to dry up the ocean/sea probably will cause a dry forecast for the duration of the game. thats what i think atleast.
