Since the Source SDK was released i've been working to teach myself how to program source.
Now to share the fruits of my labours!

The first tutorial on how to program for half life 2 is up at my website:

www.kaosnyrb.co.uk

Feel free to private msg me any feedback.

Looks good, well explained. I don't code, but I understood it.

Interesting stuff. I'd add a "What have you learned" bit at the end of each tutorial, like "Today, you learnt about #define" and say what #define does.

Awesome. Make Angry Lawyer help you write more episodes.

Seriously, this is great, please don't make this a one time thing :)

I'm quite happy to read over what people have written and correct/suggest stuff, but I don't have the time to write episodes myself D:

Excellent. My opinions reflect Link's.

I've stickied it, because people always whine about lack of coding ability.

I'm not expert on coding, but when i tried to open that Game_HL2-2005 file, i got a warning about a missing vcproj file. I have no idea what those are or how to create them, help?

EDIT: I think i solved it, thanks anyway.

EDIT: I didn't. Help.

This is a good start. I think you need to name the tutorials better. For instance, rather than lesson 1 you could call it "setting it up" or something like that.

Awesome! I've wanted to learn some coding in the past, I'll ahead and bookmark the page.

Thats simalar to what they do in my school.
WALT = We Are Learning Today

I don't like the "Download Visual Studio 2005 express off microsoft (google it). It's free." Why not give them a link?

I've been looking to get familiar with hl2 coding. This helped me do just that, thanks!

VERY good! I don't code but this is great to getting me started.

Please keep it up. :)

Edit: I do PHP programming and suprised how similar this is, like if statements and functions.

I was browsing this site looking for these tutorials and I couldn't find them, were they taken off or am I just a dum dum :dozey:

read the first post and go to the website .
Read what he said. He said he went to the website and couldn't find it. How does telling him to go to the website help him?

I did exactly the same and I couldn't find it. I looked on every page I could find and check both using IE and Firefox. Instead of giving useless advice try to give a direct link or at least directions. :hmph:

sorry guys no luck , i tried looking around for snapshots but i couldn't find any . If you guys have some specific requests then i wouldn't mind writing up a tut . To be honest i didn't really think much of his tutorials he just detailed the steps taken without really explaining what he was doing , granted it was meant for an intermediate level but i think he should have elaborated a bit more. you can find most of what he did in the source developer wiki under "how to create a new weapon" .

ooo ok thanks anyways, I am just new to source programming and i wanted to see if there was anything in here. I noticed all the replies praising the tutorials so I figured maybe this could be a good start. I guess ill stick with using the source developer wiki.

i followed your advice and joined the mailing list, i am gonna start reading up on the SDK tutorials to get going understand all this lovely code, thanks for the help mindless, and if you ever need a programmer, let me know lol, i am referring to when i actually grasp this code

Why is this non-existant tutorial guide still stickied?

I've stickied it, because people always whine about lack of coding ability.
Waaah, waaah! I can't code for shit!

If only there were a link from HL2.net that actually took me to a programming tutorial!

Seriously why is this still stickied? It doesn't give any information at all!

its stickied because this particular area of the forum doesnt get much love. although ...
[DISCLAIMER MAY OR MAY NOT BE TRUE ..maybe ...perhaps] we might get some new (indepth) programming tuts in our very own hl2.net wiki ...soonish. [/DISCLAIMER] . in the mean time there are plenty of tuts on the source sdk developer site thinger and if you need help i strongly suggest posting up on the hl2 coders mailing list.

looks like he's taken the tutorials off his site, as i remember there were only three or four of them anyway. unstuck.
