Website idea

I was trying to think of a way to make money doing what I like without being forced to and came up with this website idea . You probally think im being greedy and lazy. And your'e probally right. :cheese: Anyway, the more I thought about it the more I realized how it could benifit every artist and gamer.

Its an idea for a gamers website where people can donate money or just click on ads at the site to provide money for artists. Artists could submit maps, models, mods, etc. They would paid a certain amount of money based on something like a rating system.

For example, out of a 10 point rating system someone rated the file 10 giving the creator $0.10. Another person rated the file 5 giving the creator $0.05. Could be higher or lower. There could also be a category system, depending on what category its in effects how much money it can make. Like a mod usually takes much more work then a map so a mod would make more money.

It wouldn't be something where they are guaranteed to be paid, but as long as they are rated and there is money in money pool, they will be.

I realize theres plenty of problems with this and the site would have to be constantly monitored. But I think if something like this was done right, more people would be encouraged to become artists and higher quality media would be released.

It was just something I thought of that could benefit me so it could be a dumb idea. Defiantly sounded good at the time though. Theres no way I'd be able to make a website like that so if you like the idea and are able to make a website similar to that, get to it! Ill be sure to go there often. :E

people would just get all their friends, or do it themselves and just vote for their own maps or whatever.

also, the way you worded it, i wouldn't trust you with the money.

Well thats the thing, people wont have to. They like what they got, they can donate or click on a few ads. If something is good enough, people will donate. I dont even think donating money would be neccesary as long as everyone clicked on an ad when they rated a file. From what I know you can get between a few cents to $0.40 per ad. even $0.10 would be plenty. Say someone made a really good map and you want to see more maps from that person. So you just go to the site then rate him and either donate or click on an ad then bam you just have him a little money. Wont be alot but lets say he got rated 1000 times with an average rate of 5 giving him $0.05 per rating. Thats 50 bucks right there. Even if he only got rated 100 times thats still 10 bucks which is plenty in my mind.

But yah, its just a random thought I had, Im sure people can think of the problems it would have all day. What do you think of the general idea though. Not how I sayed it could work, thats just an example. Just the general idea of a website where people can submit media they made and possibly get a little out of it if its good enough.

Ok, I realize some people do it for fun as a hobby or do it to so they can get a job. But Those newbies obvisouly weren't mapping before but they are now cuase they can get money out of it. If its sucks then they wont. Someone new to mapping making proffesional quality maps...think about that. Id give a few cents for that. Im sure alot of the gaming community would to. Escecially for games that have coop. And people that are already making custom content would defiantly submit there as well if they could make a few bucks off of it. Its not like they have to be paid.

Paying? No one would have to. If these guys here were to submit a map then support them by donating a few cents or click an ad. Thats it. You woulnt have to give money. Even it it was a really good map it doesn't necessarily mean theyd get money.

So anywho, I guess people wouldn't like this idea:hmph:. I usually forget what I think to be good ideas or something like it is made soon after so I decided to post it. Oh well. Anyway, back to DoD:S:cheers: .

I wouldn't. They are amateurs. I give my money to the professionals.

than if all you're worried about are getting money from ads, make a site about something else, there are more than enough 'game download sites,' and they're massive and very popular.

In no time you'l get mass registars posting other people's work, thus taking alot of your time trying to keep the jacks out and the artist's in. plus even without the jacks, you'l still get loads of signups, and you'l have to split the income between the well rated ones, wich will be alot, so not much per artist.

I'd not register if i'd get only 5 cent on a 5 star rate picture

I'd never donate money to amateurs because, a very large part do it as a hobby. instead of trying to get into the gamedevelopment bizz. wich i think a few bucks would help them getting there (fund someone a new portfolio for example)
but on the other hand. if the amateurs and mod makers would expect to get money for doing work then you get sad results i am afraid, no one can get modelers because they expect to get money for doing work on a bloody mod.

in itself it is a very nicie and noble idea, support the amateur artist! but there are just to many flaws to acually make it work

I just remembered today that I posted this idea years ago. What's funny is, majority of the responses basically bashed my idea. Now, similar concepts have been implemented by leading corporations. Unfortunately, Evil was also right.
