What's the difference between those? If I have to break through defences I have to Wedge or Ice Break and if I want to set up defences I can encrypt or set a password (I might be mistaken; anyway there are 2 options).

Encryptions need more energy than passwords to break and create.

That's all I know. It's probably for making sure the other person runs out of energy before they get to hack.

Wedge is just that, a wedge. It lets you through the ICE mine without actually removing it. So if you wedge into a node, then you get killed, the next time you come to the node the ICE mine will still be up. Password--> Encryption-->ICE are the different levels of security you can use on a node. If you have the time and energy ICE is preferable, but that may not always be the case which is why the other two are there.

Also, if theres an ICE Mine, use an ICEBreaker not a Wedge, or the mine will either lower your energy or kick you out of Cyberspace (I might have been kicked out because my energy was low anyway and it lowered it to 0).

And you missed out ICE Mine Bait. :p

Password--> Encryption--> ICE--> ICE Mine.

If you wedge through an ICE.mine, it only allows you to go in and out. It doesn't actually break it, it just lets you wedge into it.

Nooo, don't Wedge when theres an ICE Mine! :p Jacks you out, the point of putting an ICE Mine down is so they have to use an ICE Breaker and can't just Wedge through.

That explains allot...

There are ICE Barriers and ICE mines, which one are you talking about? It seems you're using them interchangeably...

Also, if there are two different actions in cyberspace, the first one is faster, reloads faster, and is really cheap to hack. The other one is tthe opposite.

For the weapons, the hitscan is instaneous and it is extremly accurate, but it takes a long time to reload. The projectile is accurate and reloads at a fast clip, but it needs time to travel. On the plus side, it has a little splash damage and you can use it to propel yourself around.

ICE is the actually barrier that blocks the node off, ICE Mine, is the little mine that appears in the ICE barrier itself.

Okay: two parts of a hacking node thingy. The doorway, and the actuall command box where you can put in commands, such as CAPTURE SPAWN and stuff.

Security at the doorway thats possible:
ICE mine, if there is a barrier

Security at the command box thats possible:
Password
Encrypt
ICE Barrier, if there is not barrier

Alright, now for the hacking part.

If the ICE barrier, the yellow barrier, is up, then you can either wedge through, or break it. Wedging through gets you in temporarily faster and for less cost. ICE breaking it destroys the barrier, and it can be re-made on your team using the ICE barrier command at the command box. You can also put an encrypting or password onto the command box.

Get that?

Now, if there is a ICE mine on the barrier, you try to wedge through, you get pwned. You have to break it.

I don't think I've ever seen an ICE mine. Does someone have a screenshot?

Wedge only gets rid of the ICE Barrier for a few seconds then it will come back up.

Can't you put an encryption and a password on it. Or just one?

For some reason, I can only ever do the standard Encryption when hacking....when another option like ICE or password is available, it says to hit the "4" button (I think), but no matter what button I press, I can't get it to work, only the standard encryption works by pressing the "use" button....

Anyone else have this problem, or am I doing something wrong?

If you bound "slot 4" to something else like mouse4, then you have to press mouse4 instead of 4.

Ah, I got it, thanks.

Apparently, Dystopia doesn't like it when you have two keys bound to the same action. I had the numeric keys and the buttons on my mouse bound to the same things.... it's all good now.

Now THAT'S a delayed reaction.

I wasn't even aware people still played this game, though how great it is. The full version needs to come out. And if it already has, why wasn't I notified?!

Because you aren't the most important person in the worl...
*Person takes Beerdude26 away*
"What?"
"..."
"He is?"

Sorry your highness
*Beerdude26 gets on knees and bows, then shuffles away*

:p

On-topic: The problem is that after the November update, Dystopia was completely ****ed up. You couldn't play it decently. So everyone quit en masse. It's probably repaired now but the first craze died out prematurely :(

update 4 will be out soon with 2 new maps and a bunch of new features and fixes for all the known bugs. hopefully ya'll will check it out

It is awesome. Many people still play it now cause of Update 4. Jeez the new maps ROCK. This mod is so professional looking.

Also, here is an explanation of the Hacking system.

Hacking Tutorial (Yes I wrote this myself :) )

OK, heres an example situation. There are turrets killing all your teammates trying to capture a spawn, so you need to capture the turrets by hacking.

OK you go to a hacking station and "Jack In". From here, you navigate to the appropriate area to hack. Your at the room to cap the turrets. But you cannot get in. Thats because there is a Ice Barrier protecting opposing team members from getting in. You also see a black round object in the middle of this barrier, thats an Ice Mine. You have TWO options:

Option 1: Use a WEDGE to get through the barrier. Using a wedge on a barrier with an Ice Mine will take your energy down a lot whereas normally if it didnt have an Ice Mine it wouldnt take much of your energy (Remembering that you need energy to stay in Cyberspace and hack). Wedging through the barrier will get you into the room but once your in there it will come up again a few seconds later, locking you in the room. This is OK because you can now hack the turrets but if you do want to get out you can always Wedge out or perform an Ice Break if you have enough energy.

Option 2: Use an ICE BREAK to get through the barrier. This will completely erase the Ice Barrier allowing you and anyone else to get through and into the hacking room. This is better, because it allows you to go in and out freely, and you can also set a Ice Barrier of your own later on to keep enemy players out. This does take more energy to perform but is the preferred method.

Ok, now that you have gotten through the barrier and into the room you are faced with the task of capturing the turrets. When you approach the screen it will either be Passworded or Encrypted. If it's passworded you will have to press 1 to break the password but if it is encrypted you will have to press 2 to decrypt it for your use. Once you have done this the turrets are yours to use freely and control. The screen infront of you will now have a button on it saying Capture the Turrets or something similar. Now just click that with your mouse (A arrow cursor should appear when you put your corsshair over the button) or press the USE key (normally "e"). Congratulations, the Turrets are YOURS and your team can now move around without fear of being shot at by them.

But wait, what if an enemy hacker comes in and captures them again? What methods can I use to make his task of capturing them harder? (Or not capturing them at all). Well, the first methods available to you are to protect the control panel which has the Capture button on it. You can protect it with ONE of TWO methods.

Password Protection: When you face the control panel you will see options come up. Press 1 to put on password protection. This is put on quite quickly and uses less energy. Its downside is that it is easy to hack and breaks quite quickly.

Encryption: The other method is encrypting the interface. When facing the control panel press 2 to encrypt it. This is the best method, as opposing hackers will have to use more of their time and energy to decrypt it. Its disadvantage is that it also takes you longer to put it on and also takes up more of your energy.

Remember that you can only use ONE of the two. Use which one suits you at the time, if your running low on engery opt for Password Protection. But if you have the time Id recommend using Encryption. OK, You now have CONTROL of the TURRETS and also have them passworded/encrypted. It will take the hackers on the other team longer to break it and get the turrets. But are there any ways of slowing them down more? You betcha!

After passwording/encrypting the control panel there is one more option for security.

The Ice Barrier. This is by far the best security option available to use, as it completely blocks enemy hackers from using the panel and it takes a LONG time to break through (Unless using a wedge, but it will still stay up, locking them in there and others out). To use this option, face the control panel and press the corresponding number beside the Ice Barrier label. This will now set a barrier and take some time to do so. After it is done the enemy is now blocked out of the room and cannot hack it. But there is still ONE more option at your disposal.

The Ice Mine. This is more like a add-on for the Ice Barrier, as you need to have an Ice Barrier on to use it. If you do have an Ice Barrier, go to the barrier and face it and press 1. This will now set an Ice Mine, and if any enemy hackers try to wedge through it will kick them out of cyberspace or leave them with very little energy to hack with.

Your team now controls the turrets and you can now procede to capture the spawn without the hinderence of the turrets. Once you have done everything you wanted to do in Cyberspace, press F1 to jackout and go Kick Ass!

OK, I hope that explained the hacking system to most people who didnt understand it. But the best explanation is playing the game, so go and play it and fool around (not too much so that you piss everyone off) and most importantly HAVE FUN!

Yah, the two new levels seriously rock as well.

Allthough on Silo I don't like it how the punks first objective is there hardest one, its a bit demoralising.

Jeez thats the easiest. Just rush it with stealth, wait in the room a while when they think no one is in there just hack
