Weekly Art Contest: Week 23 Discussion

Well, pretty good topic. I am taking a very unique approach to this, utilizing my other art skill. Animating.

Hope I pull it off nicely. :)
 
The first entry by Glo-Boy is beyond what I was expecting from this contest idea. I really like the work put into it. It's very unique.

I wounder if vegeta897 can match it?

Here's a rough quick sketch I just did in Photoshop. I'm gonna model it 3D though.

I like Blumenkohl's except the pistol grip and trigger guard. They just dont seem to fit, and the shape is akward.
 
Blumenkohl's is awesome, but I agree with SnowBall. I particularly don't like the color of the pistol grip
 
Thirded, I don't like the handle :(
 
The reason for the yellow grip is because I wanted it to sort of fit with the Combine costumes, most of which we have seen so far, have a yellow part in them. It is a Combine assault rifle after all. ;)
 
i really wanted to enter this, but i havent goit round to doing an entry... and i just remembered im not gonna be on Hl2.net untill monday :/ maybe tim will keep it open longer because we havent got many entries.

WOW if you can do that in Paint...I'd buy Photoshop for you just to see what you could do in that... :eek:

Unlike I said earlier in my Bugbait thread, I started to work on my animation.

I will have to cram to get it finished, I should be able to pump out a decent movie.

Some info about it, it is called "Failed Weapon Designs For Half-Life 2" It has a little comedy in it, (or so I plan) and.. yeah. So far I have one weapon designed with sound and stuff. :)

Holy macaroni, RJMC.. That is absolutely awesome, I wish they had that gun in the final game :D
 
I actually thought that the gun was a real gun man. And then I found out it was your design and to tell you the truth, THAT MODEL AND DESIGN IS SUPERB and like Harij I also wish it would be in the final game. Probably you could implement it in the game like a mod when it comes out?
 
Sigh, something is wrong with the sound in my movie... So I guess you'll all have to see it later. I probably wasn't gonna win anyway.

Yeah sorry guys. My internet has been having some issues lately and haven't been able to get on much at all. Hence why the no IRC. I waited for some more entries into the contest, but I guess no one else felt inspired. I'll post the vote up a little later today.
 
Hey Blumen, which 3d package did you use to make yours? I'm using Blender right now, but its interface blows my mind :x
