Weilding/Welding (wotever) , your thoughts?

First of all how do u spell it weidling or welding

I dno even if this is true or not that u can weild/weld in HL2

Im sure i read few places that u can weild/weld gas canisters to things etc.

Can any one help me out here n confirm the weilding/welding for me ? :)

And i wos wondering if u can weild/weld how will u guys use this in MP or SP modes :devil:

and yes you can...

and i dont know much information myself... ^_^ i only know you can, and it has something to do with orbs that you glue together... i dont have a clue how it works tho..

Yes you can, although as this is only known from the stolen beta build I'm ot sure it is alright to discuss.
 
It's welding. Wielding means swinging/carrying usually with some abandon or aggression, eg: wield a sword.
Weild means nothing.
As for wedling in HL2? I've heard something similar but I imagine you're out of luck as it's probably only in the leak.
 
Welding.

Last year, a magazine talked about this feature I believed. Anyways, I remember what I always wanted to do with it (not sure if it would work though D: However, with the news that you can take saw blades and chuck them across and cut off zombie heads I'm sure this could be done).

Anyways, wouldn't it be cool to weld pipes or other sharp objects onto the front of your buggy and then drive through the combine and when you are done, you will have a nice combine shis-ca-bob (IDK, spelling D: ). Yummy combine!

LOL, just thought of this.. You could like weld a car together and pimp it out :D Sonds like a creative mod for HL2.

According to leak players, yes you can weld but it's not sure if this will make it into the final game because Gabe said that the gun which you use to weld (the one with the blue beam) was merely in the game for showing off the physics.
 
Might have just been a proof to see if the concept worked. :D
The mod ideas are endless....imagine something like BF42 but you can build and add onto the vehicles.

Yes I can think of so many stuff to do with it, imagine welding extra armor plating on the buggy. It would be a shame if it isn't in there, but I think Valve would only take it out if it just wouldn't work, I can see how it can give many balancing problems (you'd be invulnerable in a fully armored buggy)

Yeah, but maybe it would go slowly and would definitly limit vision.

Im imagining people with gas canisters now...two things could go wrong:

1. People miss the cap and it blows up in their face.
2. Trying to weld one to something and it blows up in their face.

Come to think of it, could you really weld a gas tank to something without it blowing up in your face?
 
I emailed Gabe about it!

The type of people here (including me), I can just imagine how much time I would waste just screwing around with a weapon like this. I mean think about it, with the pyhsics in HL2 it would be so much fun.
 
Im going to weld some barrels onto the fastest vehicle and side sweep people in MP.

If we get vehicles in MP...... :angel:

It's not really welding, it's more like glueing. Apparently, you shoot two 'blobs' to the objects you want to weld, and then they move to eachother and get connected at the glue points.
But those gas tank thingy sounds cool, rocket powered buggy anyone? :naughty:

we should, I hope to god we do :naughty: , most of the fun is gonna be with the vehicles. maybe they'll be something you can fly?, .. :)

Even if it doesn't make it into the game it will probably be modded in really fast, and then the fun can begin. :devil:

I havent played the leak and dont plan to, but by the way it sounds, THIS weapon should be called the "Glue-On" gun. :D

Another thing its been used for is attaching planks and stuff to doors, to hold off oncoming zombies/etc a little longer, they eventully work out how to break it down though.

Me thinks a nail gun should be modded for this purpose alone!
 
You know what would be cool...attach several gas canisters in a line glued together and attached to a person/car/object. Boom you have your own multi-stage rocket.

Maybe the Scouts nail gun in TF2 can be used for such a purpose?
 
Yeah, I think Gabe said there were 2 varients of the manipulator gun. One holds stuff and moves it around and the other glues/welds. I'd be surprised and disappointed if it didn't make the final game because the potential creativity for chaos could be huge.

Does the source physics allow for objects to glide (simulated air)?It would be cool to weld together a plane, and put a gas canister on the back, and have it take of while you stand on it.

No, something as complex as air resistance isn't in Havok or any other engine that I know of. You can still have a little flying rocket thing with gas canisters.

These idea sound really cool, and Lobster, those words made me go into a 5 minute period of daydreaming about that stuff! That sounds so cool! omg so cool!
Ahhh, I can't put it into words besides "AHHHHH! SWEEET!!"
 
I have been Seriously considering with a few friends setting up a really simple mod, focusing on the physics. where players kinda use junk and various weapons to build crazy shiz to complete certain tasks, like crossing a river or a gorge using nothing but a ramp, two barrels and a swing! lol.

Kinda like Virtual Junkyard Wars / Virtual Scrapheap Challenge

I wonder how complex the physics in HL2 are.
 
Well I won't link to it because it's probably illegal, but the video I saw showed a guy welding some gas tanks to a plane he made in the editor and it gliding through the air.

Lets just say that it has something to do with HL2 world

A mod like that is already being made, Junked! is where you use the weldgun to build bridges across rivers and obstacles from the junk you find in a race against another team.

I haven't seen the video but I would assume he did something like make the plane have a neutral weight and boyancy with the "air" so that it could float. Then he just had a small force applied to it to propel it forward.
 
i have a feeling this is going to make rocket/grenade/etc jumping obsolete

who needs any of that crap when you can have another player weld a gas can to your back and have you "rocketeer" over the enemy base or if you have the enemy flag (assuming there is a ctf mode) have a team mate bash off the cap and have you rocket back to your base.

i can hardly wait
 
Wouldn't that burn your butt or something?!

I guess it's better than shooting your footsies off though! :p
