So I'm living in a dormitory atm, since I moved to Sweden for the time being, for a student exchange program. I'm connected via cable to a hole in the wall, which I assume leads to some main router in the building and I have to type in a code from a pre-paid card every now and then when I reconnect (cause usually it just remembers the code and logs in automatically).

The connection works mostly fine for me but, for example, about 20% of youtube videos won't load (they stop at the beginning and the browser says "Done.") no matter how many times I refresh the site. Sometimes the site loads as if it was coded in basic HTML only and says something like "Javascript not enabled" and upon refreshing loads normally.

The other day I couldn't view clips from gametrailers.com.

Today I got disconnected from Battlefield 2 twice after a few minutes of playing (lost connection to server) and then had problems joining back (and ultimately couldn't after the second disconnect) - the server browser worked, but upon trying to join I got "couldn't establish connection to server, check your internet connections". The friends I was playing with had no problems. At the same time web browsing and X-Fire worked fine.

Also, I did not have these issues before coming here, so I don't think it's my system.

What's up with that? Why would some videos work and others not (I know some videos are broken anyway, but not 20%)? Even if a lag spike caused me to disconnect, why couldn't I reconnect to the server? Is there anything I can do about this?

And I thought Sweden had reliable Internet infrastructure...

You could be experiencing packet loss, but they're probably just throttling your connection. The terminal program, mtr is great for diagnosing network problems. If you use Windows, you might want to look into PathPing.

Packet loss would explain losing my connection in BF2, but how can some sites not loading be explained?

As I said, some youtube videos don't load, no matter how many times I refresh. At this moment I'm talking with a friend that can access a site which won't load for me, though I wouldn't be surprised if it loaded fine in a few minutes. Is the router I'm connected to randomly blocking access to certain IPs or what? :|

EDIT (1 minute after the post): The site I couldn't access works for me now.
