right well i got my ram and long story short, i found out that socket 754, specifically my motherboard (gigabyte k8ns pro) is VERY tetchy about having more than 1 stick of 3200 ram in at the same time

so i swapped me brother with 2700 and i remembered i had a spare 256mb 2700 stick of ram so i stuck that in aswell...so i now have a 512 3200 stick in one dimm socket, a 512 2700 stick in another dimm socket and a 256 2700 stick in another socket which leaves me with 1.25gb of ram

enough of all the technical bollocks, it seemed to be working completley fine and i was really chuffed with the performance but then i started noticing out of place stutter in games...like as though sometimes you'd get with half-life 2 with a low amount of ram when you'd just loaded a level...but the thing is it won't go away after a while

its really strange...its though say i spin my character around in counter strike source, it'll be as though its loading textures up again and again and as though its struggling to ...store it in the ram if you get what i mean

it happens randomly in the game aswell and battlefield 2 is an absolute nightmare with it...

its my belief though that its doing it because i've got 3200 sat with 2 other 2700 sticks of ram

i'm swapping it today anyhow but if it doesn't fix it, any ideas?

i've just experimented actually and its not the 3200 ram that's the problem....i actually think it could be the sata hard drive because me mate said he had similar problems when he used to play games off his sata drive

edit: wow not the sata drive either...i just tried bf2 on me other drive and it does exactly the same

i've actually managed to fix it...this thread can be DELETED!!!! :)

That's good that you fixed it.
Just a question though. Why do you want .25GB more memory (over 1GB) but also slowing down your memory from PC3200 to PC2700? All sticks will slow down to the slowest memory in your system (PC2700). Use CPU-Z to check speeds

well the thing is i had 1 stick of 3200 and it worked fine ALONE in my commy...i then got me second stick of 3200 through the post and it wouldn't boot...so i went on the net and apparantly socket 754 (specifically my motherboard) struggles with more than 1 stick of 3200 so the reason i've put it along side 2700 sticks is because i have to

....and about the .25gb more, thats just because i had that stick spare to put it in

Which is one of the few reasons I stuck with intel . . . well sorta

But just to mention: www.memtest86.com that tests your memory for erros, but since your OK it wont matter anymroe really.
