Weirdest problem EVAR...

Well my computer is completely screwed now. I'm on my schools computer. It doesnt detect any drivers for anything. Motherboard, cpu, video card, sound card, harddrive...nothing. I get the blue screen of death immidiately, and safe mode locks up before I can get to it, meaning it just never loads up, it sits there frozen. So I basically can do nothing. In BIOS it doesnt even know its an AMD cpu apparently, yet it knows about the AMD Cool n quiet mode I can select lol. I don't know whats going on anymore. I cant reformat because it doesnt detect my harddrive. I'm assuming I literally just have to buy a new harddrive? Any alternatives would be greatly appriciated. The only thing good that happened was the clicking stopped. Probably because everything else on the goddamn computer stopped. Help ASAP please, I won't be in school too much longer today.

if the HD was clicking before it may just be on its last leg or if you're lucky just some bad sectors.

try going to command prompt and type 'chkdsk /f'

this has helped me recover from this same problem(by fixing bad sectors). but your harddrive may just be close to death.

my drive clicked alot before it died, you should maybe backup just to be on teh safe side because you will regret it if something does happen, but lets hope it doesnt.

well its a freakin raptor 74g hd only a year old...not even. my comp is about 10 months old at most. most of u know what it is i had it in my specs for like 8 months lol. but i just dont get it. i backed everything i need up thankfully. looks like i haveta buy a new drive. ill try the chkdsk /f when i get home, but i doubt ill be able to access safe mode or command prompt. in the mean time, recommend me some good drives around the 120 gig area.

if you can't get to safe mode, command prompt only, then go to bootdisk.com and get a windows 98 boot floppy image. boot from that, and you'll be able to run chkdsk.

well im at bootdisk.com. should i just get the windows xp boot disk? or is there a specific reason to get the windows 98 one?

why hasn't anyone thought about the bearings in his HD? maybe they came loose and that's the clicking noise

well i went ahead and spent 150 on a new hd lol. 115 for the hd, 40 for the over night shipping lol. its a seagate 160gb 7200rpm hd. apparently its incredibly reliable and alot of people seemed to complain about their Western Digital drives dying out on them. I'm assuming mine was just more fuel for the WD fire. Here it is:

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=22-148-031&depa=1

It's not SATA, just a normal IDE, but its big bad and reliable.

Let me know what you think.

what about the WD? have you ran chkdsk /F yet? curious

the win98 disk is what you want, is has a bunch of utilities on it, not sure about the xp one.

didnt work. :( im gonna send it to get repaired so i can have two hd's and the external. i dont want to lose my raptor, it was really good to me, although WD's breakdown often according to alot of reviews and people. makes me nervous about my external hd that doesnt have a power switch, just a power plug that i have to pull out every time i dont want to use it lol. :x
