But it is. And so is Mother's Day, Father's Day. You should love your parents/partners/loved ones all year, not neglect them until one "special day." That's my excuse anyways.
Also, if you do something "romantic" on Valentine's day it's expected, but if you do it out of the blue then it's a nicer gesture.
