Well I am stuck in the beginning.

I can't believe my stupidity (probably because I'm tired right now...) but I can't get out of the place in the very first map without weapons or anything after you drop out of the window and walk by what looks to be a ticket dispenser with a line waiting, then you go outside and there are like 4 checkpoints... yeah I have no idea what to do. Please help a retard like me out.

Theres a ladder near the farthest Combine checkpoint. Climb it and hop down from the ledge when youre up top.

Don't feel bad. I walked around for a while, then restarted the game, then heard Barney say, "Don't go to any checkpoints." and then figured there had to be another way. And yeah, I waited in line at the dumb machine for 5 minutes.

I even thought I was supposed to kill the first guard at the gate with a brick, or a broken bottle. Then I just walked up to see what would happen and he goes, "Pick up that can."

I just messed around at the start too.. had some fun throwing shit at the cops. Bit weird how they can hit you a million times without doing any damage, you should have had health from the start imo not that its a big deal.
