Another thing I've had trouble with RRoD is if you have a third party cooling fan installed at the 360's power socket. Remove that if you have one.

Mine's still at the shop with a broken disc-drive. Since they charged me ?56 for being out of warranty to accomodate the repair, if it doesn't come back ready to work for the next century or so, I'll shit in an envelope and mail it to them, then buy a PS3 or something.

Give game programmers some time. Once they learn how to effectively utilize the Cell architecture, the PS3's gonna blow the 360 outta the water. :thumbs:

Try this, worked for me, then again it only started doing it a week ago and I bought it about 2 years ago:

Turn your 360 on, wait for it to go red on you.

Turn it off. Unplug the AV from the back, leave the power cable in. Also, take your HD off.

Turn the 360 on and itll go red straight away. Turn it off after 5 or so seconds. Plug the AV back in and put the HD back in place.

Turn the 360 on again.

This worked for me but it messed up some of my saved games, and also my clock it seems, as my saves are being saved under 2005 as date.

If its still going red, send it back again.

Errr, no. Some break down out of the box (just like the PS3), and some dont at all or last a few years. Its just bad luck. Im sure the PS3 has the same problems.

AND, the 360 has pretty much the same graphics and fps as the PS3, for like...a third of the price. Screw the PS3. Then again, PS3 has better games..

I have had my 360 since launch and we got the rrod once and fixed it by taking out the HD and putting it back in.

For those of you saying just get rid of it because it went bad isn't a very good reason. If he likes the games the 360 has to offer then a ps3 won't help him out very much. If it's under warranty it's just an inconvenience. It would be an even more inconvenience to buy a different console and be stuck playing riiiiiidge racer!

No, I agree with Dynasty.

A good number of 360 games can be had on the PC, as many of them are multi-platform games, whereas the PS3 has alot of great exclusives that can be only had on the PS3. I'm not a Sony fanboy by any stretch, (I don't even own a next-gen console yet) it's just the PS3 so happens to have more exclusives that I like than the 360 does.

Everyone has their opinions thought and not everyone has a capable PC, in which case the 360 would be a better choice. (If not for the hardware issues of course ) The 360's live service is top notch too, and as long as you can put up with the idiots (which I can't, so I usually play single-player games anyways), there's some great multiplayer gaming to be had.

Also, has it occured to anyone that many people whose 360 breaks down on a regular basis just maybe plays games way too often? :|

Still, that's no excuse for Microsoft's poor console engineering imo.

Never had any problems with my 360. Still don't see what the fuss is about. I still mantain that my first console's fart was my fault.. for dropping it.. while it was on... plus I ruined Saint's Row. Anyway, here are a few things you should know:
A: The towel thing is right, but just set it on one, it helps.
B: Air circulation. Make sure the 360 and the Blox are out in the open, or you're flucked.
C: Horizontal.
D: I personally don't like the MGS series, so 360 is a better deal for me.

THIS IS ACTUALLY TRUE!! I didn't believe it my self till one day i was playing my buddies xbox and got the Rrod. HE was asleep and i didn't wanna tell him i did it :X So i looked online found the towel wrapping trick. I wrapped a towel around it for ten mins, with it on, took the towel off turned the system off and back on and VOILA!! it was amazing, it's worked 3 times now. It's not a permanent fix but it lets you play.

It works because you're essentially superheating the PCB inside the 360, causing it to bend slightly and allow the CPU to make better contact with the heat sink. If anything it's a temporary fix, and not the best method.
