it tell me 149gigs of space even thoe the Box says 160?
any Ideas??
 
That's how it works, thank harddrive manufactorers for that.

It's because there's 160 billion some bytes, and when you round that up by the power of 2, you get 149 GB...

Because the binary system works by the power of 2, which harddrive manufactorers didn't understand, or bother to understand.
 
then they shouldnt write 160 gigs on the box...that sucks makes me mad to
 
It's the amound of space after you format it. And drive manufacturers sometimes count a gigabyte as 1000mbs instead of the exact number.
 
Let me remind you that there are 1024 Megabytes in a Gigabyte, not 1000. Wich = about 156 250 MB in 160GB, then there is the format.
 
They now say on the box 1000bytes = 1mb or something to that effect. In small print of course.
