gaming journalism at its finest. this guy has some balls to approach yakuza members (okay, so he already knew them before) and ask them to play a PS3 game with him.

Ironically, the sections that Shirokawa seemed to enjoy the most were cut out of the US version: mahjong, the sexual massage parlor, and the hostess clubs. After I explain to him what Sega cut from the US version, he said: I feel sorry for the people who bought the American version. SEGA USA sucks.)

Japanese criminals are cool, because they're Japanese!

That hair is begging to be lit on fire.

I love yakuza 3 btw. It had a lot of slow moments (the sheer amount of text-only scenes didn't help either), but once you settle in and get rolling it's omg.

They'll kill you five times before you hit the ground! :D Nonetheless, quite interesting that actual Yakuza were asked about the game portraying their lifestyle.

That hair is begging to be lit on fire.

Did I forget to mention that they can kill you five times before you hit the ground? :)

Those aren't Yakuza anyway, they're Bosozoku. And I think mock Bosozoku.

Related to the article.

"In 2001 the FBI's representative in Tokyo arranged for Tadamasa Goto, the former head of the Goto-gumi, to receive a liver transplant in the United States in return for a $100,000 donation to the UCLA Medical Centre in Los Angeles and information about Yamaguchi-gumi operations in the U.S."

This is a very dishonorable Yakuza, selling out his friends for his own well-being!

I had to look that one up.

I think so too. They might be an amateur band. I see a mic and loudspeaker, along with what looks like drum sticks

Can't they still be yakuza though?

Only they're not open about their membership?

Please, I so want to believe and dream that there are members of a criminal organization that look like that!

Edit: Another video with these guys, this time an official music video or something made by some Swedish dudes(Yay Sweden!)

Well, one can hope.

Anyway...
Overall, the game is favorably received by the three yakuza playing it. While it vilifies organized crime in many parts, in the end it glorifies the yakuza and gives the protagonist just cause — it was good PR for their profession.

Apparently the reason why the game is so accurate is because the game designer gets some help from the yakuza, since it glorifies them. Not sure if that's true but I wouldn't be surprised.
