What are you upgrading for HL2?

I have 512mb ram, not sure what kind though, i think the only way to find out is open my dell up and see. But im thinking about maybe getting alittle more ram, 128 or 256 and i was thinking about a new video card, but i think the 9700 pro will run fine so no.

I think the 9700 pro will work fine, I have one of those babies. I'll probably upgrade my memory to 768 or 1 gig of RAM, but if I don't I think 512mb will be fine

512MB ram - not sure what kind but im getting 256 more
SoundMAX Digital - uhh its a weird soundcard, came with my customized dell, and it actually sounds pretty bueno. I run a wire from my pc to my entertainment receiver with 4 polk audio speakers and subwoofer, yeah its quite loud.

Regular CD-RW drive, no DVD though. Might upgrade

Only got a 1800XP with a Ge4200, which probably isn't enough to run HL2 1024x768 with all the shiny flashy things turned on. So it'll probably be whatever CPU is cheap when HL2 comes out, and maybe a new graphics card :/

I'm getting an extra 256mb of DDR for a total of 896MB of RAM unless I get an extra 512 putting me at 1.125 GIGS. I'm also getting a Radeon 9800, but to do so, I have to upgrade my motherboard and powersupply. Since a new power supply won't fit in my p.o.s. case, I have to get a new case (with a power supply). But that's about it.

Right now I have
1.8Ghz P4
640MB PC2100 DDR
120GB HD
40GB HD
GeForce4 MX 440 PCI (HOLY HELL IT'S HORRIBLE!!!)
and other stuff that doesn't relate to game performance so I won't mention.

P.S. This stupid IBM I got last fall only came with PCI slots :-(, so I had to get the best PCI card I could find. I'm still not sure that I did either, but hey, it was only 50 bucks.

I'm aiming to get my RAM up from 256mb to at least a gigabyte. The comission and bonuses structure has just been reworked at my place of work and they've just released a new product we can sell on so technically I've just had a pay rise. Should be earning an extra £3000 a year now if I hit the same targets, I could always get better as well and earn more. Anyway, so yeah now I'm earning a bit more I'm probably going to get a 9800 256mb, then my computer will be fine for the next 3 years at least. Already got a 2.66GHz processor, 120GB HDD a 128mb GF4 ti4200 and a 5.1 soundcard so I've got it pretty sorted whether I upgrade or not, but I probably will.

You dont need PC4000 RAM. Just get PC3200, it will actually work better. PC4000 would only be good for high OCing, and the 3.0C cant get that high.

uh buddy, ok first get a new graphics card, preferably a radeon 9700 pro, if you got the money go for the 9800. Get atleast 512mb ram, another chip of 256...make sure you get the right kind. And i guess 1.6 ghz is ok, it would be nice for a 2.3 or so.

you can find a 9700pro for 250 300.....the 9800pro is 400

Its a wonderful card, the best out.

You can get a Retail Xtasy 9800pro 128 for $300. They are usally $400 but comp usa has 2 $50 rebates.
